Hi,

My friends cat just got diagnosed with pneumonia. It's a young and healthy cat and the vet is

optimistic. They don't know the cause for sure yet, but the cat is on antibiotics now.

I might sound horribly selfish and stupid right now, I'm really not, and I love both my friend and her cat, but

I'm going over there friday, is there any way I can infect my cat?
Like on my clothes or anything like that?

Sorry, this might be really stupid, but I couldn't find an answer for it online, and I'm kind of afraid to call my vet and ask :p

That is a legitimate concern!  I'd ask your vet about it.  Also, just to be safe, I'd change out of my clothes/shoes and shower anyway when I got home.  Obviously don't let you clothes/shoes be where you cat can get to them until you've cleaned them.  But I would find out from the vet if this is something that can affect your cat.

Thank you for your reply!
I was there right before the cat got sick, and changed out of my clothes and showered before handling my cat. (I always wash my hands after handling other cats)

I'm just a little unsure if germs/viruses can survive that long on surfaces like clothes.

Some germs live longer than others on surfaces.  What you're doing is wise, cleaning up like that.  It's better to be safe than sorry!

She has two other cats and the vet didn't say anything special about how to contain it, so I don't know. The vet acted as if it isn't contagious, so maybe it's not?

Do you think it's safe as long as I shower and change before handling her? The cat isn't allowed in the laundry room.

Sorry for being a nag and a ranter here :p
