Hi all,

With immediate apologies for the images, I'd be really grateful if anyone had any thoughts on what these might be? I found them near my cat's bed this morning. My first thought was that they were from a mouse or something as my cat is outdoorsy and does occassionally bring back the odd shrew - but she never eats them, it's always just the animal itself there as evidence whereas there was nothing to be found this morning apart from these things and the blood.

So this led me to fear that they were out of my cat herself. They don't appear to match any Google Image searches of cat worms but do resemble a cluster of worm-like shapes. There are no changes in her appetite or behaviour, nor any signs on her body, but she has just spent a week in a cattery and I wormed her the day before, which may be useful background.

We rang the vet but they just said to keep an eye on her - I'd quite like them to have looked at these pics. But as they won't, your poor people have to! Sorry they're a bit yucky but if anyone has any ideas of what they might be and whether they are from my cat herself or something else, I'd be really grateful. I do worry a bit as she lost her sister to renal failure last year, so it just puts you on your guard, I suppose.

Thank you in advance.

Jonathan

I would take the cat to the vet along with a bag or container that has this stuff in it...cat might have worms?? There looks to be hair on it so It probably came from the cat!

It does look like the inside of another animal.  Is she acting normally?  Is her anus and poop free of blood?  Id yes, you may want to wait and watch, but i'd never say you should avoid a vet if you are concerned.  If you go to the vet bring that material.

Thank, both.

She is indeed blood-free and acting normally, though there were some other smears elsewhere. No way of knowing if they were from her anus or paws so cannot deduce if it's from her or something else. There's split opinion on that!

Interestingly she did actually bring a small animal in last night and there's a fence panel missing at the bottom of our garden which leads onto allotments, so that would all point towards yesterday's also being from another animal which they do look like... BUT the small animal I found this morning could be coincidence and it conformed to her normal style of bringing them in whole. I also can't get away from how worm-like those bits look and that there was no sign nearby or outside of the rest of the creature which definitely wouldn't have scurried away with that amount missing from it!

The vet suggested over the phone that it could be worms being passed (can that happen a week or so after giving a worming tablet?) but they haven't actually seen the above photos.

So the mystery continues...!

Small animal innards.  I've seen enough to know.  The bottom picture is the intestines.  Trust me.
