Hi guys really need help... I took in a homeless kitty a couple weeks ago, whom only looked a couple weeks old, however she went on heat a few days ago which was a shock since we only thought she was very young I have since read up on the heat cycle, quarantined her and made an appointment for her to b spayed after the cycle is over... However I went to check on her tonight in her little room and someone left the window open :-( she must have been out doors no more then 20 minutes until I found her walking along the fence.... Im unsure if she has mated and have looked for obvious signs; saliva on the back of her neck and any scent of a male spraying on her, but I found nothing... In saying that her behavior has changed a little before she got out she showd many symptoms of being on heat lots of affection, constantly meowing, rolling around also her rear raised and her back legs treading but after getting out tonight she seems to have calmd a little she's still rolling around and meowing but less insistently.... Please let me know are these signs that she has mated? I do intend to get her spayed asap but am not sure if this can be preformed if she has been impregnated... Please help

You probably won't see any signs that she is pregnant until about three weeks.  The first noticeable sign will be her nipples - they will get larger and turn pink.  If she'll let you, take a look at them now, and then check again in three weeks.

If you do not want kittens, some vets will spay a cat early in their pregnancy.  There are a lot of opinions on whether or not this is "the right" thing to do, but I wanted you to know it is an option.

Yeah, there is no Medical problems at all with spaying now when her heat is over.  Even if she has been mated and may be said, technically is preg..

Some vet handbooks even encourage mating to make an easier spaying afterwards, not to risk spaying when in heat - which is more difficult.

Spaying later on, when they become visibly pregnant, is more touchy of course.  but this is Another story which you dont need to bother with.

Tx for helping her!

Good luck!

ps.   To be entirely clear:  my definitive and strong recommendation is you do proceed with your plan of spaying her  now, this week, as soon the heat is over.    @misty cay

(and yes, even very Young cats, of about 4 months, may get pregnant sometimes...  Another  reason to spay her NOW.
