I've read that omega 3 oil is good for ibd cats.  But, of course, I've also seen on the internet that omega 3 oil supplements cause problems with ibd cats.  Anyone have an experience in either direction with their ibd cats?

Hi,

Omega 3 is an anti inflammatory and that's good for IBD because the intestine is inflammed, the question is will it be enough and not cause other problems, both questions I can't answer.  Having my own IBD cat I can however say that it may be possible to control it in early stages with diet and gentle, vet approved meds and supplements (probiotics, etc) but it also may reach a point where you really need to get into bigger meds to control it.  A novel protein diet (prescription not OTC) can go a long way to helping.  Note that DNA testing on OTC novel protein diets has found contamination (they use the same equipment) and may negate the point.  Royal Canin and Hill's have non-contaminated foods.
