Just took my buddy to the vet- noticed his pee was getting more pungent than usual- and turns out I was right, his kidneys are in decline :(

My vet actually was rather optimistic, because  if caught early enough, the values can be brought down to normal. My pal's values are considered to be borderline/ the low end of 'high', according to the ranges given by the the lab. However, when I converted his creatinine values from international to US values, his creatinine values are 3.1-- which I've read is Stage 3 CRF. Should I just follow the lab's ranges, or do I consider him to be in Stage 3 renal failure?

Behaviour wise, his appetite is great, he goes to the toilet regularly (but no excessive peeing). I mix water into his food to make sure he gets enough fluid, but other than that I don't see him drinking much. He's the best cat you'll ever ask for and I want to do right by him, so I'd love all the advice I can get!
