My 1 year domestic shorthair has a grade II heart murmur. What happens if I leave it untreated?
Also, if I treat it how much will it cost me (rough estimate like less than $100, more than $100, etc)
I'm am worried but my cat hasn't shown any abnormal signs. Thank you!

Hi

Just because your cat has a heart murmur doesn't mean your cat is ill.  Your vet should discuss this with you.  With a low grade murmur like yours, often vets will say just watch and wait and see if it progresses, and if it does then you can do some heart imaging, which will likely be several hundred dollars (I think in my area it was around $300) but again it may be too soon to consider this.....

I have/had 2 cats with a grade 3 heart murmur and 1 cat with a grade 2.  None showed/show any symptoms but it is always a good idea to talk to your vet/vets for more information as well as read up on the information yourself.

You should discuss it with your vet and see if you are both comfortable in watching and waiting or if you can and are able to afford the costs of the non-invasive procedures to check it out.

In our area,. the cost ranges from about $190 to almost $500 depending on the test/tests. Call around to see the cost. Maybe you can find a teaching hospital/school that can give you a discount if price is a factor.
