I've had my little girl for about 2 years and have been waiting to breed her when I have all the kittens presold. But a very common thing I hear all the time is they can damage their little legs easily if they jump down from too high. I tell all my potential adopters the same just in case its not a rumor and is true but my girl is so tiny she stopped growing at 5months and her legs are only an inch long. She seems so fragile and she seems scared if we pick her up and carry her. Is this true or just a myth so I can stop being overly paranoid

OK, just a few questions. :)

Is this a purebred cat with papers? Do you have breeding rights?

If yes, your mentor or the breeder you purchased this cat from could probably tell you best if she is in any shape to breed.

If no, please get your cat spayed. As you know, this site is very pro spay.neuter. Here is just a small part of the Forum Rules:
3. This is a pro-spay-and-neuter website. Please make sure to spay and neuter your cats. Unless you are a professional breeder and your cat is part of a professional breeding program, please educate yourself to the importance of spaying and neutering by the time your cat is 4-6 months old.

Yes and yes. She was born in my home so I didnt purchase her from a breeder but I got all of her paperwork done and her vet said she was fine to breed. I understand the breed is prone to osteoporosis later in life but since I didnt buy her from a breeder, I dont really have anyone to answer the question for me because all of the people who have mentored me had different breeds such as russian blues, siamese, persians and her breed has such a unique body structure, its hard to find many people who know about them

If she was born in your home and you bred her. I guessing you must own the parents too. Where did you get her parents from ? They must have come from a breeder ? ;)

Her mother was owned by a friend of mine who's mother tried to dump her so I came and got her. The father was a stud cat another breeder helped me find. The stud's owner agreed to not charge as long as I gave him half of the first litter, but I havent talked to him since he took the kittens

I've looked up other breeders and the closest one I found was in California but she responded to my email saying that she had heard many people say it was true, but she couldnt be 100% sure about them hurting themselves until osteoporosis sets in when they get older. She said only one cat had been injured from falling, but it was a very high distance. I just worry about her because she jumps from the counter after I bathe her but I'm worried how tiny she is that she could be fragile and hurt herself

So you do have papers for the mother and the prospective mother? I'm curious who issued them as most cat associations see the mutation as a fault and therefore don't recognize Napoleons as a breed.

As far as them being more fragile than other breeds, I don't know.

This whole thing just sounds like a bad idea. The poor thing only has 1 inch long legs? Why is this even an appealling characteristic?
