So I recently got a new kitten, she's totally adorable. However I've discovered she has spasms in her sleep which is normal, but I've also realised when she's sleeping she breathes fast too I thought well maybe she has exciting dreams, I didn't count how many though until I also realised she breathes just as fast as she does when not sleeping, she is currently laying down relaxing but I counted her breathes per minute and reaches 110. Is this normal for a kitten? She's a few month old at least.

You are absolutely sure you are measuring her breaths, not her heart rate?

If so this is definitely not normal/okay and she has to see a vet.  A normal cat takes just 20-30 breaths a minute.  If she is really taking 4-5 times that many, something is quite possibly seriously wrong.

Please keep us updated on what the vet says.

I am definitely watching her breathe, For a kitten I've read that it's normal for it to go up to around 50 if its active, but considering its twice as much I'm concerned. I'm trying to get her heart rate but it's difficult. Thank you for the advice, I'll get her checked up just incase.

I counted how much she's breathing when asleep, reaches up to 70 and very irregular.
