Eye injury?

Two hours ago, my cat was fine.  Now she appeared with something wrong with her left eye.  She is purring and does not seem bothered by it.

Any idea what could cause this?  Reason to rush to eVet?  Wait until tomorrow morning?

I have some NeoPolyBac ointment given to me last year when here third eyelids were showing, possibly due to allergies.  Should I use any ointment or wait for further diagnosis?

Thanks for any advice.

It seems to be getting redder and a bit more swollen.

You're right to be concerned as that doesn't look good.  I'd not use the ointment, but get her to the vet first thing in the morning.  If you're really concerned call the ER vet and see what they suggest, or call your vet and listen for after hours instructions.

I called the EVet and was told to use the ointment as it is a triple antibiotic. They have 7 patients now and I cannot get in for quite some time.

After doing some searches I think it may be cherry eye. Treatment is surgery.

I will get her into her normal vet first thing in the morning.

Good job being proactive!  Let us know what the vet says tomorrow.

I was thinking it looked like cherry eye too, but I've really only seen that with brachycephalic dogs rather than cats. I've heard it can be treated without surgery but I don't have any personal experience. Please keep us updated!

Just back from vet checkup.  Vet suspects cherry eye.  He has never seen it in a cat before.

Instructed to use NeoPolyBac 3x a day for one week.  He said he has had good success treating dogs using ointment and hopes surgery is not needed.  May be related to her seasonal allergies.  If so, Atopica is something we can try.

Thanks for the update! It's good to hear he's optimistic about not needing surgery. Hopefully it can be resolved smoothly.

Came  home after work and eye is much better.  Put Neo Polly Bac in after returning from vet.  So, once last night and once today.  I will still follow through with it 3x a day for once a week.
