Sorry I'm new here and been reading all the threads about PU surgery (my apologies I am on mobile and haven't had much rest so I can't find where to post a new thread).
My cat had a blockage, we brought him in this past Monday the 28th. When they put the catheter in they had to assist in relieving him. It was not working so they had to perform the PU surgery on him this past Wednesday (I would do anything for my Jinxi, who is 3yrs old. Our vet clinic has also helped our other two pets tremendously with issues in the past 3yrs, so I trust them. They also saved our dogs life). He had some complications with using his bladder.. and some bleeding they got under control. Friday they sedated him to put the catheter in because he was ouchie and not going on his own (I would be too!).
Today (Sat) we went in to visit our Jinxi and the vet stated he did notice he voided in the box when he arrived at the clinic (not to much but still something!) and didn't need to assist him in urinating for the first time (catheter is still in, still no feces probably due to meds?). He also went once too. They said were not out of the woods yet, but it was a positive sign. Before the surgery when he had the Catheter in, he needed help. Today he had more energy and flew into my arms screaming happily at me and my husband. The day before he just laid there. He purred away, I sure didn't want to leave him but we know he's in a good place. Hope he makes it through the weekend and fully recovers. Wet food only of course. This has been so hard on my family and I (and our other pets too) because the vet said this is the last hope if his bladder doesn't start to function properly on his own. Maybe he is just slow to recover. Also I noticed his cone was smaller and kept bumping into his surgical area when he tried to lick, causing irritation and slight bleeding. So I requested a larger one and it appeared to work. I hope they give him time with this glimmer of hope we got today. Monday the catheter comes out and we hope he can go on his own. They were also worried of the surgery site closing up, with as much issues he has had. Thank you for letting me vent this has been and still is very stressful. They are closed tomorrow, but there is someone there with the pets. After today's visit I didn't get no call, which I took as a good sign too. We are remaining hopeful and we did not let our stress show by him during the visit today. We kept positive and told him to get better so he can come home to all of us. I could tell he wanted to go with. Even then, I will be watching him like a hawk worried when he comes home (positive thoughts I'm trying to have). Thank you for this wonderful forum filled with good advice and a peace of mind, This has been an emotional ride. We just want to do what's best for our furry kids
