I guess I seem to have this idea that you're supposed to refrigerate things in cans after you open them. However, after I open a can, take out a little, and put it in the fridge....it turns gross and then he wont touch it.

I buy the Blue Buffalo brand cans and he usually likes it when it's fresh out of the can and will eat most of what I give him. The fridge makes it get all jelly and cold and even if I try to warm it up, I feel like it's still ruined by the fridge and he wont touch it. Is there something I'm messing up here? I can't imagine it's safe to leave it out all day right?

I put mine in a sandwich sized zip lock and then in a freezer sized zip lock. When I feed refrigerated portions, I put it in a small glass bowl, microwave for 8 seconds, and add a little hot water and mix it up.

Depending on how long the food is going to be in the fridge, i.e., for a few hours or over night, I put a plastic lid on the can or put the contents in a BPA-free storage container for baby food. The food is zapped in a glass dish after it's removed from the fridge.

Our last cat absolutely refused to eat any food that didn't come in single-serving cans, and I found it cheaper in the long run to humor him than to end up throwing out leftovers.

Our cats aren't super picky, thank goodness. I keep it in the same can and put a small Ziploc bag over the top, and then wrap an elastic around to hold it. If I have a 5.5oz can, it only lasts a couple days max, but the 13oz cans I tend to keep and fridge for up to 4ish days. I add hot water when I serve it. I always add water when I serve their wet food anyway, so it's something they're used to. I smush and mix it all up so the jelly bits get melted back into gravy.

I know what you're going through Momo is the same way with refrigerated food. I usually put the leftover food in a small glass container I got from the dollar section and put a plastic wrap on top of the food then close, that way the fat and sauce doesn't congeal on the top. When it comes to eat I heat it up in the container ,with lid off of course, and a bit of hot water if necessary just to warm thoroughly.

I use small glass canning containers. Never leave it in the can as it can p/u the odor of the metal.

Unfortunately, both of mine aren't thrilled with leftovers - but at least that's a rarity because even gently reheating doesn't do it for them.

I store in small Tupperware containers and take out of refrigerator one hour in advance to get it to room temperature and they chow down. If not real warm in room I sometimes do not put am leftover food in refrigerator, I feed it at pm

I used to store it in a small metal bowl and would put the metal bowl in a bigger bowl that I put hot water in.  Then I got enough cats where leftovers just are not a thing:p

:yeah: Freezing in portion-sizes is the best way to keep it fresh. I thaw and warm up frozen food by putting the baggie in lukewarm water. Warm water can be added to the thawed food to make it warmer (and get more moisture moving through them).

I have 2 cats so I feed large tin 5.5 ounce between them for breakfast and a small 3 oz tin split for dinner both with a few sprinkles of kibble on top. This way there is never any leftovers. If they do not finish breakfast they come back and finish in hour or two. I purposely buy small and large tins. In the past I would store leftover in small Tupperware in cool place I only refrigerated if hot out. I also found less vomiting at night when bigger meal is fed in am. I don't know why cats like to vomit at night. It's a mystery.

I store it the same way I store human leftovers. I use Lock n Lock containers. I heat it up with a bit of water in the microwave. (ceramic bowl)None of my cats refuse leftovers.

I used these when I was feeding wet. They worked really well, although the food did stay in the can. I'd just pull them out of the fridge an hour or so before I served them, remove the top, stir, and serve.

Here's a link to them, but I got something very similar at Target.
