Hello,

My 4 month old kitten just got fixed yesterday, well when i picked her up they prescribed me Buprinex 0.1mg.They said to give her 0.2 ml by mouth twice a day for pain. They came with 5 syringes and i gave her one last night at 10pm and now its about 11am. When i had got my other kitty fixed (diff vet and she was a tad older) they never sent home with any pain meds just gave them to her at the clinic.

My question is should i give this to her? i know cats dont really show pain. she  is being her hyper self, trying hard to not have her rough house with her sister

Is it too early to give her this morning dose since i gave it to her last night?

Should i give it to her after eating?

Is it safe to give her daily does of l-lyisine with the pain meds?

Thank you!

Hi

Buprenex is a very good pain medication.

She should not be running around like that or jumping. She could tear internal stitches and cause herself some problems.

The Buprenex should be given  in the buccal mucosa which is kind of the inside of the cheek. She absorbs the medication through the lining of her mouth. It needs to be given on an empty stomach so don't feed 1/2 hour before or after . Then feed normally. Buprenex is actually labled for every 8 hours, so you should be fine doing it every 12. Questions call the vet.

It is a full on abdominal surgery. She needs the pain medication. Yes many cats have survived spaying without any pain meds but they shouldn't have had to.
