Hello! My name is Ann, and I am new to the site. :)

In January I adopted a cat that showed up on my doorstep and I am uncertain what breed he might be. He's very large! Tall, muscular, not fat, but around 15lbs. Very hyper active, curious and playful. He has very bright golden eyes too. I am not entirely sure that he would be an Arabian Mau, but there seems to be some similarities. Thanks in advance for any info :)

A classical tabby, red (or ginger in everydays language).    There are no natural Arabian Maus in USA.  And these rescued from the arabian countries arrive already neutered, so unless you do have a breeder nearby, the chanance of AM is nil.

Although, living in Arabian he would prob be labelled as AM!

Is / was he neutered?   Was he so friendly from the beginning, or had you to socialize him several months at first?

Welcome and Good luck!

He was already neutered, which is why I searched for owners at first, thinking he was displaced. No one ever claimed him. He was very friendly from day one. I had seen him outside for a couple days before trying to call to him, and as soon as I did, he jumped in to my arms. He has been very loving with my husband and I, and very playful with our other cat.

Either way, we love him and he has more than grown on us! I was just curious about him so thank you! :)

Not impossible than that he was someone's escaped purebred. I don't know much about AMs but he was almost certainly somebody's escaped or dumped pet

Very true. I tried for months to find an owner, see if he was reported missing. No chip. He never acted like he missed anyone either, which I thought odd. He really acclimated to living in our home so that's why we ultimately decided to keep him.

I was going to say orange tabby but then I have never seen an American Mau.  I'll have to google and see

what they look like.

What a lucky boy to have you care for him.  He's beautiful!

Beautiful boy! My peanut is an Arabian mau/ Siamese mix. I purchased her from what I now found out was a backyard breeder from Chicago, who imported the father from the Middle East (it’s mentioned in my previous post I can’t remeber it off the top of my head lol). Peanut looks pretty similar to a cream house cat, except her face is a little more distinct and she has large ears as well. Here’s some photos for reference! So funny how big ears can turn into tiny ears depending on the angle! Lol

She is only six months old and has a very long slim body and long legs and large ears
