If he wasn't so darn stinky, having him around wouldn't be a problem, but when he tried to come in the cat door tonight, I knew I better start feeding the outside ferals again,so he could have food or else he would come in the house.

Well he/she only pushed her snout through the door. I was doing dishes and looked over and screamed. She back pedaled, and the Trips went skidding out of the room and slid under the bed. My scream scared them! Gosh I can't imagine what would have happened if she had made it all the way in the house! She was after the dog food that sits in the corner near the cat door- I am sure of it, so after I was positive she was gone, I went outside cautiously and laid out a buffet for her! LOL

Oh this brings back memories of a family friend who was a biologist and had a pet deskunked skunk named Arpege after a perfume of the times.
He didn't like kids and would skitter his fat self away from my "want to pet you" hands as fast as he could, diving for the nearest bureau to get under it!

Yikes! It's a good thing there are no skunks where I come from.
But isn't it true that skunks go into hibernation this time of the year? Maybe your skunk was being more daring than usual because it had to store up energy for the winter.

That's a very unique and interesting feral you have there Hissy! Maybe you should have him de-skunked and take him in as a pet!

It is against the law here to have skunks as a pet unless you get one from a breeder. He really is a beautiful animal, God just has equipped him with a nasty though effective weapon of mass destruction!
Skunks don't hibernate in the wintertime, they do what is known as "long sleeps" in the daytime and come out to feed at night. It is quite interesting to watch the trips interact with him at night, they seem to get along well together-
