Is it possible to have Ringworm on only two kittens out of 10 and NOT CATCH IT MYSELF?...

Hi

Very straightforward question:

Ringworm is a nightmare I dealt with in my childhood.

Now the vet suspected ringworm on a couple of my foster kittens but I am not sure if it is possible to be around them for two months (they often just lie on top of my legs when Im wearing shorts) and not have a single lesion on my skin?..

Also they had scabies about a month ago and since then have been given Revolution twice.

Could that hair loss around the top outer part above the eye be the result of resolving scabies?..

That particular location is what bothers me because it is so characteristic of ringworm as I remember it.

Another possibility is that they had Demodex mange - I am not sure what that was because I caught it pretty early.

Please any experience?...

Thank you!

Simple answer:  YES.  There are many factors involved with actually catching ringworm, and the calmer and healthier a cat is, the less likely it is to catch ringworm, and the same is true of you.   The lesions you mention could indeed be scabies or mange mites.  Advantage Multi (flea control plus another medication) kills mites, including mange mites and ear mites.  As for ringworm, I still think that a bath with a shampoo that combines ketoconazole with chlorhexadine is a great way to get rid of any spores that might be in the fur, before they can incubate on the skin.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Wow... That's definitely news to me because my childhood nightmare took 3 months to heal and I was covered from head to toe as well as infected like 20 neighborhood kids, so it was quite memorable...

I am the opposite of being calm or healthy (I have severe anxiety disorder) , so that's really weird....

I am just so tired after treating my fosters for everything under the sun that I am not looking forward to shampooing them twice a week. But I guess I'd better do that and not take a risk because the vet sounded 90% sure that it is ringworm...

I will do the culture test on wednesday. Will shampooing them and applying anti-fungal spray affect the accuracy?..
I don't even know why Im asking because I know it will...

Anyway thank you for the info[emoji]128591[/emoji]

The childhood nightmare is no doubt a product of the anxiety disorder. If you are dealing with ringworm now, this would be a great time to ask your doctor for some antianxiety medication.  Ativan works for me.  I dont take it much, but when I have a very sick cat, or when I'm going to take a cat to be put to sleep, or when I have to travel and particularly if I have to fly, I take them.  They halp/

Mange mites and scabies mites are different right?..

I gave them Revolution which made them look better but still something is wrong: darkness around the mouth, reddish skin on the belly, discharge from the ears and hair loss between the toes as well...

Does Revolution kill mange mites?...

Or and I am on Xanax for about 10 years, so I still have the same problems...
Be careful with benzos please. They get your body dependent on them and it is very hard to quit once you are dependent - it's not addictive but causing your body to physiologically develop dependency on the chemical.

Just saying...

Thank you SO MUCH!!!

If by "benzos" you mean the ativan, not to worry.  I have not flown in several years, and don't usually have to put more than one cat to sleep every year (except last year it was 3), so I would say I don't even take it once every 2 months.  It's a great cat tranquilizer when needed (also rare) -- my feral used to get 1/4 pill before every vet trip every 5 days to change his bandages.  No taste to speak of, just crushed and sprinkled on some turkey bacon, nom nom and an hour later, off to the vet we go.  Still not being handled, but docile in his double laundry basket makeshift cage.  He wouldnt eat the vets tranquilizer so the vet prescribed the proper dosage of my ativan, same drug family.  Cat got .25 mg. dose
