I found a kitten abandoned in a box outside the grocery store yesterday and brought her home. She's pretty young, maybe six or seven weeks. She was attached to me really quickly, fell asleep on my lap immediately after drinking when I brought her home. She quickly has grown used to the house and spent most of the night with me in bed (I didn't even know she could climb that yet!)

When she would sleep (in short intervals between trying to play with half-asleep me) she would nestle into my neck and wrestle herself into my hair. I didn't mind too much while I was horizontal but since I gave up on sleep seven hours ago, when ever she is ready for a nap (which seems to be every forty five minutes) she crawls up my legs, back, and arms to get to my head where she can bury herself in and sleep.

I've tried using my clothes and blankets that have my scent to let her sleep in, and holding her in my lap, petting her while she falls over falling asleep, but she always wakes up and tries to climb up me to get to my hair and won't sleep anywhere else for more than ten seconds.

I know it's only been a day, but I've adopted two other kittens and neither did anything like that, and it's just a bit confusing/annoying. Why is she doing it? Will she stop on her own in a few days or can I do anything to get her to stop?

She's really sweet and assertive and playful, and I don't mind cat scratches (I usually have them anyways from playing with my other two), but I'd rather break this habit if possible, or I won't ever be able to tie up my hair or wear short sleeves for all the scratches on my back/arms/neck.

My cat Zoe did that when she was a kitten.  I have long hair and it drove me crazy.  She was always licking it and trying to burrow in.  I just kept moving her when she did it and would hold or pet her.  Eventually she quit doing it but it took a few months.  She's five now and is still a 'licker'--loves licking my hands or arms, but fortunately has given up on my hair!

My cat sleeps anywhere.  When he was little he slept on mymother's neck, well, any neck hecould find really!  Is she a long haired kitty?  Maybe her mother had long hair and she's remembering that?  Good luck with her, she sounds like a fun kitty!

I think this is pretty common kitten behavior :) I don't remember what my childhood cats were like as kittens, but when I found my first grown up cat Puck, he couldn't stand to be away from my face at any time. I found him under awful circumstances - abandoned at about 4 weeks old in a blizzard - and he was determined not to let me out of his sight for a second for the first few weeks or so. As he grew older and more confident that I was going to keep him around, his sleeping spot gradually moved down my body (neck, then belly, then small of back, then crook of knees) to my feet.

My new kitten, Claude, has had a sweet life in comparison - the family I got her from was devoted and affectionate, and she's never had to worry about food, shelter or love since she's moved in here - but she still loves to bury herself in my hair to sleep.

Your head is warm, and your face is right there if your kitten needs you! It's a logical place to sleep :) You might be able to coax your kitten elsewhere if you make sure that place has plenty of warmth, too, but if you can't, your kitten will eventually outgrow sleeping in your hair.

Nope, she's short haired and black! I've crazy curly medium length hair and she keeps tearing it out of a ponytail holder (I don't think she likes it tied up). I guess I'll just wait it out! Thanks guys for letting me know it's not so uncommon! Here's a couple pictures of her making a cat bed up there! She stayed even while I stood up and walked around. I did some dishes and baked an apple dessert before she woke up and clawed her way down my back and legs to the floor.

Lol, thank you both. Yes, she's very assertive. I can't keep her out of my hair if she wants up there, she just mews angrily and keeps climbing up me (leading to more scratches) until I let her be. It is pretty cute! It's also obvious on first glance when I leave the house that I have cats, as my arms, legs, and neck are all covered in scratches. What a cat :)

I named her Lobachevsky, after the Russian mathematician. It's a mouthful so I call her Chevsky for short.
