My 10 month old Lola squirts her wee..Ive mentioned it before and someone on here called it elevator butt, when I googled that I couldnt find any info.
so she stands in her tray with enough room to wee but her butt shakes like crazy and she squirts her wee backwards and it usually hits the door and runs down in a puddle. Then she is all confused because her tray is not wet. So I dont think she means to do it (like some Toms) but she cant usually do a normal wee.
I try to watch her each time and is 50 50 she gets it in.
Is this a vet issue or just how she goes to the toilet?
Thanks in advance for your help. :)

The best thing you can do is get a urinalysis. If it is a urinary problem, it will save you a great deal of grief if you catch it early.

Good for you, for paying attention! Now go to the vet!

Straining and urinating while standing are usually a sign of urinary issues.  2 out of my 3 males pee standing up and both have urinary issues. My other male cat, and all my females squat and have not had any urinary problems. To me, standing while urinating is a "red alert" that something might be going on.

One of my male cats blocked last month and it was $600 to save him.  So get to the vet, and hopefully it will prevent a more expensive bill down the road!

Elevator butt is more a squats and starts a regular pee then as it progresses they lift but up more and more until they are standing.  Main thing is has she always done this?  I have a few who do and from a few months old have always done this.  If it started recently then it could be spraying or it could be urinary issue or pain.  I would get a sample in and see.

They sell high sided boxes for this reason-or you can cut the side of a Rubbermaid tote down.  I do not reccomend the covered boxes as the pee just will get stuck in the tray/lid part and personally I hate covered boxes as seems they cause some issues at times-especially in multi cat households.

Are you using a natural litter-I notice when I did some of the cats did not want to squat low enough.  Do not see that with clay litterr(clumping and non clumping) but saw it with pine and the wheat litter

Yes i am..sometimes she squats lol and stays low, sometimes not. We have 4 cats and we only have her do this. Lola eats everything..including litter so i dont want to get anything with chemicals. She is a little odd ball.
