So my younger sister was eating a granola bar, the kind with semi-sweet chocolate chips (Small). I think one of the chips must have dropped on the ground, and my kitten ate it. She's not showing any signs of poisoning, she plays a lot and eats plenty of food, and her stools are normal. Should I take her to the vet?

It's like one of these.

If she only ate one little chocolate chip and all seems normal I wouldn't be concerned. Now, if she ate a bunch of them I would take her to the vet immediately. Yes chocolate is toxic to cats but if I am correct, only in large quantities. I don't think one single chocolate chip is going to hurt her.

I could be wrong though, so I would wait for other advice and do some research on your own.

It is my understanding that most of what Americans (not sure where you are from) call chocolate doesn't really have much true chocolate in it.  It's mostly sugar and other flavoring.  Not sure about the kind of chips in a granola bar, but I suspect it is on the cheaper end and contains very little of the harmful substance.  I would be more worried about a higher end chocolate bar like Ghiradelli or Godiva that is > 50% true cocoa.  Still, it doesn't hurt to keep an eye on the kitten for any lethargy or abnormal behavior.

I just looked it up and semi sweet chocolate contains ~150–160 mg/oz (5.4–5.7 mg/g) of the toxic substance.  I would guess one chocolate chip = ~ 1 gram (so it would contain ~6 mg of toxic substance.).  The toxic level in cats is usually listed at 100 mg/kg so unless the kitten is tiny (< 2 pounds), it shouldn't be anywhere near the toxic levels.  Still, I'm NOT a vet (i have training in clinical chemistry) and I am relying on facts from the internet, so you may want to call your vet to make sure.
