Hi everyone. I am new to this site. My name is Alex and I'm 33. I have a 4 1/2 year old cat named Düc which I believe is a ragdoll but cannot confirm as I cannot locate the parents. I have a question about food and hairballs. He was previously on Purina hairball control food and I recently switched him over to the Purina SmartOne hairball food, and have noticed he has been coughing up more hairballs than before. He's been on the new food for about 2-3 bags now. Should I switch him back or add something else to his diet? He always has lots of water and also gets Fancy feast as a treat.

I realize its a long post for my first one but any help is appreciated. I love him dearly.

Thanks..
Düc

Welcome to TCS. :wavey:

Not a long post at all. You should see some of the "books" I've written! :lol3:

I submit some articles for your consideration, about the nature of cats and their nutritional needs and the impact on their GI system motility. The bottom line is that throwing up hairballs isn't normal, it indicates a problem with their GI system.

I appreciate the feedback. I've read the sites. But this has only been a problem for about 3 weeks or so. So I should change the food back to his original food?

Why not try the Royal Canin Intense Hairball? I've had excellent results with it in the past. My father's cat has been eating it ever since he adopted him from Animal Control and Archer has had no issues.
