Hello,

I have a concern about my kitty, Gypsy (1 and a half y/o).First of all we adopted a new addition, Cali (3 months), about 3 weeks ago after about 2 weeks in together Gypsy starts showing signs of a URI so i take her to the Vet they prescribe me Clavamox 2 times a day for 10 days, with in 9 days she wakes up with a swollen eye and yellow discharge not that much at all. Now 3 days in she has a swollen face, looks like its heading to the other eye, but the discharge is not as much. shes eating, playing, and talking gettin back to her old self like before we got cali.

So my question is the Clavamox should of cured this right? I dont know much about vets, but they didnt do any type of URI test just prescribed me the Clavamox.

I do have a appointment for tomorrow, just stressed a out about this. Want my baby feeling better already.

Thank you!

Clavamox alone may not be enough for Gypsy. I suspect what she is having is viral (Herpes, Calicivirus, or Mycoplasma) with secondary bacterial infection. It is the latter that the Clavamox would treat.

She likely needs an antiviral added...either an eye drop (Idoxuridine) or oral (Famciclovir.)

There is also a possibility that she is simply having allergies with a secondary bacterial infection, though it is more likely viral related.

Good that you have a follow-up appt made.

Hope she gets well soon!

Thank you so much for your response, This morning her face was perfect besides her eye now mid afternoon her cheeks are so swollen. Would it be okay to have her wait till her appointment tom afternoon (4:45) or would this be something way serious. Thank you so much again for your help and advice.

If you are seeing increased facial swelling, this is cause for an emergency vet visit. I would NOT wait for an afternoon appt.

If there is no E-Clinic in your area, call your vet clinic tonight and see if they leave instructions on what to do in an emergency.
