I am planning on making a litter box furniture to hide the litter box, after I move. It would be a fun project to build with my dad.

I am thinking of a cabinet style to open on the side rather than the top, so I can store stuff on top. The box would site on a slider shelf so I can easily pull the box out to clean

The store bought furniture is expensive and not quite fitting with my future decor.

Have you made anything like this for your cats? I want to see them!

I think that is an awesome idea and have never made anything like that only because I have no talent for such things and have no carpentry skills. :lol3: I have certainly seen the furniture style litter boxes but they are really expensive!!! I know you and your dad like to build things, right? There was something else he built for you  and I can't remember what???!!! Would be a fun project and we MUST see pictures from start to finish. Very cool !!! :bigthumb:

Thank you .. Yeah , originally the cats used the 2 doors in the front  but  the dog kept getting in so we had to cover them  and cut a door in the end under the cat tower ..

My happy place.
This is where we hide our litter box.

Before we decorated our hall we used to have a standard covered litter box in the corner. Like you we thought about how we could hide it and as we had an ugly electric fuse box and some pipework along one wall my hubby decided to build this wardrobe type cabinet to cover them.

The litter box is in it's own compartment at the bottom right of the cupboard with an opening round the side so as you look at the cupboard with the doors closed you don't even know it's there. We chose to put fretwork on the doors to let a bit of light in so that it's not just a dark hole. The rest of the cupboard is where I keep cleaning stuff, cat litter & toys, ironing board and the like.

Good luck with your project, can't wait to see the pics.

That's awesome! I love how you can't see the hole so no one has any idea there's a box inside. Love it!

KittyWhiskers, VERY NICE work!!! I love the look of the front of the cabinet with the fretwork and your husband did an excellent job making it look so clean and classic. Very attractive and one would never know about that litter box. I am enjoying seeing all of these creative and talented designs.

Thank you Feralvr. I'm a bit of a neat freak so everything has to look pleasing to the eye otherwise it drives me a bit crazy. :lol3: I don't even like looking at the photo where the top door is open because you can see all the junk inside.

Draco, we have now installed a slider shelf. Great idea, certainly makes life a lot easier.

I would love to see a pic of it! Did it make a difference when it comes to cleaning?

My dad decided he didn't want to build a cabinet after all- there's a few online I am looking to purchase. I need to move in first to see where I can put it

I love that cabinet, the fretwork is amazing and looks like it must have taken a while to make!

What I am planning to do is make 4-panel room divider, paint it and then stencil a pattern onto it. I am going to attach a plastic "floor" to each one the interior sides using Velcro so that it will be easy to clean and will keep the litter pieces within the enclosure. We're in an apartment and there aren't any small nooks or out-of-the-way spots we can put his box, so this will kind of create a small room for his box while still being opened above so that he doesn't feel too cramped.

It does make it easier for cleaning but we aren't able to pull the box out fully because it's too heavy for the shelf and it comes off the runners. I'm ok cleaning it but the hubby can be a bit heavy handed! I'm not able to upload any pics at the moment as my laptop has gone caput and I'm having to use my Kindle. There are so many pics I want to upload too!
I see in your other thread that you are moving soon, it's exciting but hard work. Hope all goes well.:D

Thank you. It only took my hubby a couple of days to make, he's pretty good with DIY.

What your planning to make sounds fantastic! You sound very artistic. Be sure to post pics when it's all done.
