I haven't posted here in a while. I've just been lurking. A lot has happened and I now only have one cat, Soren, my bobcat hybrid. One of my three cats was rehomed by choice and went to an excellent home more suited for her and my other cat was lost while in the care of someone else.

So, now I'm thinking of getting another cat. I have gone to the animal shelter and found a kitty that has a great personality- cuddly and gets along well with other cats. They are running a discounted adoption fee tomorrow so I'm going to get him. But I'm not sure how Soren will react. He loved the companionship of my other cats, but its been three months since my other cat was lost, and he's been mostly a single cat for that entire time. (I say mostly because there is a cat outside that hangs out at my house a lot and Soren sees him through the door and he doesn't like him, but they have no other interactions other than through the door)

Soren hasn't been eating much since he's been alone. He has stopped eating rats completely and it takes a while for him to eat mice (used to be his absolute favorite). He seldom finishes his canned food within a mealtime. He's thin, but he's a healthy size.

Soren is still young (10 months old) and this kitty is young (I'm not sure on age, but I would assume around 6-8 months based on size).

I'm wondering how they should be introduced?  I've read over the introduction article and I'm not sure if they will need that much time or if I should try introducing them and then going with that method if it doesn't work.

Hi!

Definitely follow the steps in the article! While it may seem like a 'waste of time' when there is a chance they would have gotten along anyway, the fact is that the VAST majority of cats do best with an introductory period, and if you do just throw them together and it doesn't work, many bad things can happen, including serious injury.  At a minimum though, if you throw them together and it doesn't work, introductions will take MUCH longer than if you'd just done introductions properly to begin with.

Congrats on your decision to get a new cat and please reach out if you have more questions!!
