Some of you may recall my former feral, Luna, who converted to indoor kitty over the winter? Well, just an update, she is doing awesome! She still hides when anyone comes over, I am told.  But, other than that, she is a very happy, safe, comfy, indoor only girl... She doesn't even like to lay in the windows and look outside.  She prefers her cat tree AWAY from windows, too!

Always good to hear a happy story of kitties enjoying the good life! I have a black feral named Luna too! I'm hoping one day to convert her and her outgoing and affectionate sister Kira into at least indoor/outdoor kitties (Indoor only, if possible). The hardest part is convincing my hubby's grandmother who lives with us to be ok with it. It is her house we live in, and she has severe asthma. Her mother had a severe phobia of all animals, and until she had been forced into regular contact with our bearded dragons, didn't realize she didn't hate/fear animals.

Honestly, it's been touching to watch her start to care for the bearded dragons after Sandy. She talks to them, heck, she'll even clean "accidents" (they are potty trained, but occassionally we don't get them to the bathroom quick enough). She won't touch them, but she cares about them. And she's been growing attached to the kitties too. She enjoys when they approach and watch her. One time she even tried to let the neighbor's socialized feral in. I was completely stunned (though I tried to be nonchalant). She also let us shelter Kira during a bad blizzard last winter. :-)

The small feral colony here has greatly filled a void that ate at us for years. Don't mistake us, our beardies are amazing, loving, affectionate, and Nexus saved my life (I had a heart infection that I swear I wouldn't have been able to get through without his love and the comfort he brought me). But I was around kitties since I was a baby. And I love having both in my life. It helps with chronic pain, stress, and just brings so much joy.

I think by the time the harsh winter approaches, she'll cave. Between how bad last winter was, and the construction going on nearby, she won't want them suffering and freezing. And the girls might be more inclined to trust us enough to remain indoors for extended periods. They enjoy being in the garage for as long as they can each night, and they like to explore the house when they can.

What a great update!  How old do you think Luna is and how long did she live outside?

I have 2 ferals that live on my deck.  One I have had for 4 years and another who has been here a year.  They both will briefly come into the house as long as I keep the sliding door open.  I so hope they will both decide to one day give up the outdoor life and live inside.  I would never separate them as they are very bonded.

So happy that Luna is doing so well.

She is probably about 2 and half years old.  She was either born feral or dumped very young.  Either is plausible.  But, I trapped her and had her spayed when she was probably 5-6months old.  I have gradually gained her trusts and I let her make the choice to come in during the harsh winter.  She did.  Now, she hates even looking outside.  But, she is a sweety even if a little neurotic.  But it's understandable given her past trauma she endured as a feral.
