My momma cat had one cute as heck kitten 8 days ago.. few days after first (& only) kitten. She still acted like she was in labor, but now 8 days later, she's a happy new mommy with one kitten.. We plan on getting her fixed soon BTW.. is it normal for a cat to have one kitten in first litter? BTW, kitty is eyes opened & walking wobbly..

Yes, its quite normal.   If she is OK no problems, you can cool down now.

Does she seems to  be still pregnant in any way?

The kitten seems to be an early deweloping and maturing one!

Good luck!

My boy was a single kitten.  His mum, I think had had one unsuccessful pregnancy before and then looked large and about to have another litter but produced one very large and chubby boy.  When I did some reading about it to check if there were any issues the only things I found were that:

a) It often runs in a family for queens to have single kittens and this is true of Mouse's mom and grand mom, and

b) Single kittens may not learn about bite pressure as a kitten as this is usually learned from play with siblings. Also true of Mouse.  He needed a lot of human training in addition to all the play and tuition he got from his fur-mom.

With regard to his mom, she did manage to have a couple more litters, one small and one large but found birthing very stressful.  She is now neutered.  I don't think this was related to her having single kittens as her own mother didn't have any such problems.

Update on Kitty, Kitty seems to be ok, but it has fleas, I'm taking all precautions that I can, there is one room in our house where both mum n pops liked to be, all window room. Lol. It has a lil of carpet, so I've removed Kitty & mum n pops, n im putting flea stuff all over room, giving mum n pops dawn & vinegar baths, and most all I can do is for ten day old Kitty is a flea comb, got one today.. mum keeps meowing at me, softly, n almost constantly when I'm in the same room, comes looking for me bout twice a day. But stays close to Kitty.. shes hardly eating.. but still feeding Kitty, but will basicly only feed on my bed (infront of air conditioner ).. I guess I'm just worried, my parents had cats as I was growing up, but this is the first I've actually cared for like I have.. thanks in advance for all yur advice, & thanks to who has givin already

im putting flea stuff all over room,............ shes hardly eating.. but still feeding Kitty,......
What is this   flea stuff?    I do ask because not so few   flea preparates sold OTC  are really poisoneous, esp for cats.    But if you DO manage to find a working non dangeorous preparate, it would be nice to us to know,   as a tip.

Diacetomeus  Eartk, (the DE) preferably of food grade, is a quite safe, decently effective solution, to sanitate bigger areas.

One member used salt  in her carpets...

Otherwise,   combing and bath with Dish soap water is the safe alternatives on the cats themselves.

I dont remember having heard of vinegar, but I supposte is should work it too.   Prob not necessary if you use Dawn soap solution.

Just make sure you dry off the kitten, and there is no draugh.

This with mom not eathing much sounds no good.   You must look out with this.   Either try and entice her to eat in every way you can.

Consider also visiting a vet to see if it is some medical problem causing her not too eating.

Please report on this more, for more  exact analysis and advices....

Good luck!

It sounds like your little kitten is doing well which is nice.  Here is a link to the 'normal' development stages for kittens, baring in mind there are variations just like there are with humans, and with your little kitten having the undivided attention of mum hopefully she will be giving lots of support and encouragement.  It is useful to think about what experiences will be different with not having any siblings around.  Hopefully if mum is interested in play and spending time with her young kitten she will make sure her little one learns everything necessary for being a big cat.

They actually begins to eat other food at 4 weeks, sometimes they begin a little earlier.

If Onyx IS that early, with walking and all, why, try.    It is unusually early.  But in desperate cases with orphans, and no  kmr nor goat milk around, there is sometimes nothing else to do but try with soft food, and hope for the best.

Onyx seems to be an early one, so this is not so desperate.   I think you can try, but just a little helpings in the beginning.

If you dont dare to try all out, wait a few days more.

Observe, her poo with change to more adult poo.   You must thus also begin to litter train her.   Make sure the litter is non clumping, so she wont get hurt if she tries to eat some of the litter.

Good luck!

I agree with StefanZ, that if you try feeding solid food give just very small amounts.  If your kitten is getting milk from the mother I would try to resist giving solid food though.  He is still very little and introducing solid food early might be harder for his body to digest.  It also introduces his system to substances he might not yet be ready to process and some chance it could make him more sensitive to things in future or trigger an allergy response.  If you do feed solids then keep a close eye on him.  He sounds pretty determined to get on in life! :-D

MServants remark is correct.  I wrote as I wrote about kittens who are orphans, or where the mother by any reason cant produce enough with milk.

If you do have a kitten with healthy mother, and she is producing perfectly good milk, make sure you continue with this as long you can, at least to the 6 week, perhaps even 8 week.

Although you will begin to let him try a little other food already earlier.

Observe also, if he eats another food, his poo will lchange as earlier mentioned.  And mom will not be so eager to stimulate him - and eat up his poo...

But at 4 weeks they are big enough to manage and try sit themselves in the litter.

So, if he has a milking and nursing mom, wait at least one week with more of this cat food...

Good luck!   @onyx87

Why mum always horny? She seems like shes always in heat
They can come into heat quite soon after the delivery, already a week after...

Otherwise, How do you mean?  There may be several variations.  Please describe a couple of examples.
