Hi

If one has to leave a quite young new kitten over night, just a 24 hour period, what do you suggest? I was thinking the bathroom, and make sure he can't jump into the tub.  Or to be safe put some food and water in the tub too!

Hi there,

When our cat was just a kitten and we had to leave her, we left her in the bathroom. We just took precautions as you had mentioned, our shower was a stand up so her getting in there wasn't problematic but the apartment's toilet didn't have a cover o_O like public bathrooms... lol so we put a large tupperware tub lid on it underneath the regular lid.

Food, water, litter...I'd also suggest making sure the water is secure enough. What I mean is, it would be an awful time to discover that your kitten has an affinity for knocking over water dishes when you're gone! :)

Thank you, yes I thought of the water and getting knocked over.  So was going to use a very heavy bowl and maybe have a back up there too.

We have had to leave a cat for a day before.  I usually leave a huge thing of food and water.  I also leave a  large bowl of ice cubes.  It takes awhile for it to melt so they have fresh water once melted.  As for the toilet I close the lid and use masking tape to tape it closed.  That way there is no chance of them opening it up and getting stuck in there.

Ooh, the ice cubes and the tape are wonderful ideas!

Also, as far as the water being knocked over, our kitty continues to spill it to this day.....so we have a different tupperware lid (couple feet wide, one of those big bins) underneath her food and water. If she ends up knocking it over, most of it collects in the edge so it makes a little pool (so we don't step on it in stocking feet, ugh!) I've seen her drink from that before too.....what a weirdo. Haha but anyway, foolproof way to make sure it doesn't disappear.

But seriously the ice cubes are brilliant.
