We have been feeding our three cats homemade raw made from meat and organs since this spring. Its been great except for a small amount of constipation that we fixed. We have been running into trouble with sourcing the organs locally (I'd rather not buy meat/organs online if possible) so we made up a batch with meat and supplements 7 days ago... the same day we treated them with frontline plus.

A day and a half later our little girl, Penny, developed really bad diarrhea; we figured she licked some frontline off her brother. She has been back and forth since then with good and bad poop. She is also showing an extreme lack on interest in her food most of the time.

Two days after mixing the new recipe our mom cat, Bub, started pooping outside the box and it was kind of loose in spots. It has gotten worse since then, and she hasn't used the box since then- it is all outside the box. She has also 'returned' her meal twice in the past 5 days and puked (not at meal time) three other times this week. Her stool is now very loose with large gelatinous blobs. This morning there is pink in the gel. She has been back and forth with wanting the food and not even wanting to walk over to her bowl. We will be taking her to the vet today.

Our little boy, Bear, seems the most okay with the new recipe... his stool has been normal and he has not puked at all, but he his showing a lack of interest in his food. He has always been very into his food- he is the one who figured out that the 7:15 alarm was for feeding time and will run to me when it goes off every day.

I am thinking it is the new recipe using supplements rather than the frontline... Does anyone agree? So, I am off to the store today to find some organs... no matter what it takes.  I am really disappointed that the supplements don't seem to be an option for us.

On a lighter note- we gave in this morning and fed them some dry food just to get some nutrition in them. Bear couldn't figure out how to eat it and actually ended up walking away! His thoughts must have gone something like this ' Why do these little rocks smell like food... is there food inside? How do I get at it.. chomp chomp... huh? umm, I'm gonna go take a nap'

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Having applied frontline to those of the feral colony I can get near for years, I'm going to have to agree - it's the supplements. :( Unless you accidentally purchased some enhanced (sodium solution) meat? :dk: I'm sorry organ sourcing is an issue. Maybe a local market or butcher can order things for you??? :cross:

Please keep us posted on the vet visit. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

The vet said that she seemed fine and thinks her tummy was just irritated by the supplements. She said to switch back to the old recipe (although she recommends at least cooking the meat) and gave her a shot to calm her bowels, antibiotics that we need to convince her to eat twice a day and a little pill that says 'dogs only' that we are supposed to break into quarters and feed her once a day to increase her appetite.

But... it turns out Bear was the one who was puking.

We got out plain ground venison last night and they did alright eating. Bub chowed down, Penny ate 3/4 of her dish slowly and bear ate most of his after some convincing.

This morning, Bub tucked it all away, penny ate most of hers again... but bear only ate half of his after a lot of convincing on my part. Bear and Penny peed this morning.

This evening we had a mix up and my husband *tried* to feed them the supplement stuff... It didn't go well. eventually he got out a can of commercial stuff . Bub ate decently, and penny and bear ate about 2 oz each.

At bed time they usually get a 1 oz snack... I've been offering more since they haven't been eating well.  Bub is doing great at eating now. Penny was not terribly excited but she ate about  1 3/4 oz. Bear ate maybe 1/4 teaspoon. He has me concerned and I think I will have my husband call the vet tomorrow if he doesn't eat breakfast. He has lost a pound ( he was 13 lbs 6 ounces a week and a half ago and now he is 12lb 8 oz). The worst part is that he comes running at meal time like he can't wait to eat.. but as soon as he smells the plate he just sits down. I tried to get him to eat some dry kibble but he just kind of moved it around in his mouth, choked on it, and spit it out. He did the same thing with some sardines that they all usually love. There has been no other little box usage today by anyone either and that has me worried. normally we get 3+ new puddles by the end of the day.

I am actually getting really upset over this. I feel horrible that I did this to my little guys. I also can't handle that I cannot find a solution.

I'll update tomorrow with hopefully good news. fingers crossed.

edit- I couldn't sleep  because I couldn't stop thinking about my poor baby Bear.... I had an idea to offer him some egg yolk- He slurped it right down! I think I'll try cooking an egg white and pouring the yolk over top of it if he doesn't want his breakfast.
