We went to the Garden State Cat Show on Saturday. Spent a couple of hours there, enjoying cats and related stuffs!

My photos didn't come out quite as good as I hoped for.  It was the first time I took the new camera out for a long spin, and between the challenging conditions (bad lighting, quick moving animals, people blocking your view) and me not quite using the camera correctly (forgot to put the lens setting to "Manual" when using that mode) well, they could have been better but, once cropped and I fixed lighting a bit some weren't too awful.

Oh and a few didn't upload due to exceeding size limits apparently so if anyone is interested they can go to my flickr site and see them there too.

(some not suitable for family photos on that site be forewarned - I use it for my digital art photography also).

Do you show your cats? I have been thinking of bringing Frida to a show for pet class. Seems like it may be fun! Even just to see all the other beauties.

HI Frida.  We don't show ours - house cat group.  Neither are pure breeds.  I thought about it but nixed the idea.  Neither of them would be able to tolerate it for differing reasons.  Casper, while incredibly friendly with everyone, doesn't do well in cars.  It stresses him out a bit too much.  Cocoa, better in cars, isn't quite as friendly with newcomers.  She was a rescue and still retains a small amount of hesitation with people until she knows them (with us at home, she's completely at ease and rules the roost in fact lol).

Plus, I don't think either of them would take well to being caged for hours at a time.

Keep in mind that showing pets requires similar care to the pure breeds prior to the show.  Which means complete grooming; bath, nail trim, brush out, clean ears and teeth, etc.  You want them to "shine" in the judges eyes.  Personality is a huge component of it also; a cat that reacts nicely to the toys they use to get them moving around in order to really see what their body is like.

I'd suggest going to a show in your area to see how they are run.  A lot of house cats are able to tolerate it and it would be a great idea if you think yours will!

Is that 5th photo a Singapura? I always thought they were a beautiful breed. That little Calico is so cute!

I think she was.  There was no sign overhead to let you know for sure.  I had a brief conversation with the breeder only due to the fact that the kitten was SO expressive and well socialized.  Totally forgot to ask what she was.

My BF fell in love with her and I think she with him.  4 months old, her name is Lily.  Just darling.  If she had been for sale (some breeders had pet quality kittens there to purchase) I think, we well may have added our 3rd cat lol.

Wow there are lots of things I didn't know about! Frida is a pure bred Sphynx and used to weekly baths so that part I'm not worried about. She is also a good traveler and good with people , but she is not used to being confined in a cage. She would probably meow the whole time! I think I will try to go to one first. It looks like fun.

BTW, she is adorable and I LOVE her name!  I saw you named her after the artist.

Yes, do go to a few first to get an idea of what's involved.  It's also pretty tedious for the owners.  Sitting around all day in a folding chair? Not for me!
