My cat, Vincent, found in the ice as a kitten and taken home by me, had a broken tail. The very last vertebrae is stuck at a 90 degree angle from the rest of the tail. so sort of like and upside down "L." Since the vertebrae is so small, it isn't something you really notice by looking at the tail (the fluff covers it) and he does not show pain when it is touched. I have no idea how something like that could have happened, my guess was frost bite because his ears were frostbitten but I can't imagine it would cause a bone to do that. I was wondering if it could ever cause him pain in the future or ever ache? I know cats don't really tell you when they are actually hurting.
