Can anyone help me?

My cat looks like she swallowed a football. I think she is pregnant, I thought he mating occurred around June 9th but she looks farther along than just a month and 10 days. She wakes me up at 4:30am so I can pet her. And about a week ago she was pulling dead grass from under our door into a pile. I was wondering if anyone could tell approximately how far along she is? Please it would help me so much!

Yeah, it sounds as later on.  They become interested in building of their birthing place quite late.

Do you feel the kittens move?  Had you tried feel after them before??

A little later I will send you our links, when Im at anther computer.

At this moment I will ask a mod to make your own thread out of this your post and my answer.

Welcome, and

Good luck!

I have tried to feel them move but I don't know what I am looking for. I have a vet appointment scheduled on the 5th but I think she will have them before then. Only tonight did I see the white crusted on her nipples. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. This is my first time ever being on a site like this, and I am still learning how to use it.

You are welcome, and you are in just the right place.  But we recommend every person to have his own thread. So its easier to follow, and give help.

The milk crust usually come quite late.

Its not that difficult to feel them kittens move in the last two weeks.  You just feel them.  You can often even see them!

If you cant feel them, it means, she is either before the last two weeks, or its in the last day or two.  When the kittens have gone down into their birrthing postitions, and arent so movable.  Thus also more difficult to feel, if you arent good at palpation-  Which you apparently arent   :)

Another possibility is it may be a false pregnancy.  Not so common, but not at all unique.

In such a case she will behave in all details like expecting and pregnant, but of course, no kitten movements.

Good luck!   @Ryan Glenn

Here are some links.  I did stole them succesfully from Red Top Rescue:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

Last night it looked like she swallowed a football. Me and my mom were looking at her stomach and feeling around, I felt something that could have been a kitten but I guess it could have been her heart. She recently started lying on her sides more often. She also did not like it the lower we touched her stomach. The lower we got the more agitated she got. Today she looks a little less like she swallowed a football, more like a soccer ball. It looks like she has four nipples that are pink and have white crusty stuff on them, and they hang low. Today it seems like the are hanging even lower. Now you are most likely wondering why e didn't get her spayed. At first we didn't because she was strictly inside. Then when we started letting her outside We couldn't afford it. The only reason I let her outside was because if I didn't then she would sneak out and then not come back for days. So I started to let her out, that way should would stay in our yard. When I could afford to take her to the vet they can't get her in till August. If she has her kittens before then than we have new kittens. We will keep them all so that kittens/cats in a shelter can still get a home. If she doesn't have them before then than she will get spayed.

So I was sitting out on my front porch watching my very pregnant cat, and she was doing something that looked like she was pawing dead grass together. Then should move under my moms car and do the same thing. She did that for five minuets moving to a new place every 45 seconds or so. This was like four days ago. So is this nesting? If so how long until she gives birth? Any help is greatly appreciated! :D

it seems as if not really nesting, so at least,  some nesting instinct kicking in.

They usually prepare nest quite late - they dont want to risk their nest be smelly too early.

But the exact hour isnt never easy to know.

'

She seems to be outside?   Better to have her inside now, so you dont risk any unpleasant  happenings nor "surprises"..

Good luck!

She goes outside during the day, but she is inside at night. I don't want to confine her to being inside until just before she gives birth.

The trouble is that you don't know exactly when she will give birth, and there is a great risk she will have the kittens outside in a secret place. If anything goes wrong with the birth you would never know and you could lose her and the kittens. Or the kittens could easily be killed after birth by a visiting male cat who will sense there is a nursing mother that he could mate with. If she is very pregnant now and starting nesting behaviour then I would really play safe and bring her in, to give her a chance of choosing a nesting place inside the house. Set up two or three options for her in dark secure places, and show them to her, then leave her to make up her mind.

I have an idea of when she might have gotten pregnant (June 9th), yesterday I saw the kittens moving for the first time. Right before the 9th she stooped yowling i the middle of the night and instead started to wake me up to pet her. I saw somewhere that when you feel/see the kittens move for the first time you have about too weeks. Since I posted my last replies there have been no other signs of nesting. How soon after she gives birth can I get her spayed? And how soon can I get the kittens spayed/neutered.

She's about 7 1/2 weeks along if you're right about when she got pregnant. So another week and a half or so. But if you're not positive about the date, be on the lookout!

Ask your vet about when she can be spayed. It really can be done any time but vets have preferences about it. My vet says 9 weeks. The kittens can be spayed/neutered as soon as they reach 2 pounds (usually around 8 weeks), but, again, some vets have different preferences.

Keep her inside and away from intact males until she's spayed, because they can get pregnant again right away.

I will definitely ask my vet. I felt the kittens move tonight for the first time. Should I set up a couple of nesting boxes? I set one up a few weeks ago because I thought she might have been nesting, should I set up more now? What works best as a nesting box? I live in Washington State, so it gets very cold at night this time of year, what temperature should I keep for them? Should I have a heat lamp on them?

If it's cold, don't get a heat lamp, get loads of blankets. My cat just gave birth yesterday and she started to shiver through the night so I put some blankets on top and around them and now they are fine.

Also hope that she has more then one kitten as they can lie on each other for heat, meaning they will not be as cold.

I think there are at least two kittens. I was feeling her stomach just a bit ago, one hand on each side, and felt movement on both sides. unless one kitten can do that. In that case I don't know how many she has. I can post pictures tomorrow and maybe someone can give me a rough estimate. Should I set up some more nesting boxes? Now that I have felt the kittens move how long until the birth? Thanks for all your help! :D

Yes you can start to set up more nesting boxes.  Keep her inside.  She will have to get used to it as she will have to stay inside until the kittens are weaned.  She will go into heat again before the kittens are weaned.  Can't wait to see pictures of your cat and the kittens.

I will post pictures of her later tonight. She only lets me touch her stomach at night and I have to be petting her neck. She only has four nipples that have pinked and the hair is gone around them, does that mean she will only have four kittens?

Will her kittens move more or less as time goes on? Since I felt them that first time I feel them move everyday. Will they stop moving when her due date comes? Also it seems like her stomach is harder than it normally is. I can't feel the babies move as easily, I really have to focus to feel them. And I don't really see them move any more. I saw one move yesterday and it's position was almost like under her leg. Is that normal? Like her stomach feeling harder and stuff? Or any of this?

Okay guys I need help! She NEVER lets me touch her belly unless I m petting her neck and even then she barley lets me do it. Tonight she let me just put my hand on her stomach. She has been extra needy and has been cleaning herself a bit more than usual. She wanted me to pet her neck, then she would put her paw on my hand so I would pet her stomach (which again she NEVER lets me do) then after about 30 seconds she would nudge my hand and I would pet her head. We played this little game for like three hours. Then just now I was petting her and she started like giving me love bites. She would open her mouth then put it on my hand and scrape her teeth along it. It didn't hut at all but she never does this. Then i put my hand on her stomach and  it did this weird thing. The only way I can explain it is like when a cats back scrunches up when up run your fingers down their spine? It was kinda like that. But she is still sleeping and hasn't nested at all. Oh and she started to growl. Not at me, she was just growling. Also when do kittens stop moving? I know I am kinda all over the place in this post but I am nervous that something will go wrong
. Thanks in advance!
