Ding, ding, ding!!!   We have a winner.  Wow that was fast.   I think the myriad food colorings were strong clues.   But how did you know?

That`s hilarious!  So just by looking at a list of garbage ingredients you were able to identify it as Deli-cat `food`.   Fortunately you realized how bad Purina is in only 2 months.   I subjected my cat to this and similar poison for about 10 years.   Yes, your prize is a long healthy life for your kitty!!!

The best thing about deli-cat was the 10lb bucket it came in....  made great storage containers.

I couldn`t help but post the shameless marketing about Deli-cat from Purina:
Your cat will love the unique flavor combination of fish, turkey and liver in every serving.
Right.... fish meal, turkey by-product meal,  and dried liver digest.  YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!    Although how they would taste that through all the corn, rice, and soybeans I`ll never know.

BTW, which Trader Joe food do you use?   The turkey and giblets?   I tried it last month and it looks fabulous!

It may be the best canned food around especially at that price level.    Certainly seems equal to or better than wellness at 30% lower cost.

I was gonna say Meow Mix but Deli Cat is just as bad. Alley Cat and Kit 'n' Kaboodle are even worse :/.

Special Kitty is almost decent compared to those :tongue2:.

I really have thought more than once about making up flyers pointing out how bad these `foods` are and surreptitiously leaving them in he aisles in Walmart, petco, petsmart, etc...

Look at those ingredients.... and people believe that a cats normal lifespan these days is around 14 years.   No wonder!!   Cats eating anything resembling a healthy diet will live to be easily around 20 AND will not develop chronic diseases in midlife at anywhere near the levels we see.

It`s shameful.    What will it take to change this?  Maybe we need a president in the White House that will keep some Tabbies in the oval office instead of all these dog-lovers.   Would probably take a woman president for that to happen.   Presidential-type men are too concerned with image.  Having a cat instead of Fido would be considered too woosy to mainstream America.  Pity.

Well. . .some people can't afford a higher-quality brand. And I don't want them to feel bad about what they can feed their pet---at least they are feeding him/her! BUT, there are cheaper foods that actually have meat in the first few ingredients instead of, like Deli Cat, only having a sort-of meat ingredient as the 5th ingredient :/.

Purina Cat Chow at least has a meat ingredient listed first. 9 Lives has a meat ingredient second. Those would be better than Deli Cat, at least.

What happens when the people that cant afford a higher-quality brand get a $3,000 vet bill?   I bet they can find the money then.

No, not usually. In most cases a pet is put to sleep if an owner is facing a bill like that. I'm not even sure I could manage that :/. And it's not like every cat who eats cheap kibble dies at a young age. Even if they do, it's better than starving on the streets at an even younger age. We should encourage everyone to do the best they can but sometimes what they "can" is not the same as what other people can.

But it`s entirely unnecessary in most cases.   Not because people cannot afford better food but because they are brainwashed by these companies that are marketing machines.   My wife and I were making ALOT of money 10 years ago when we first got our cats.   We could have afforded good food.  The fact is we were drawn in by the fancy colors of deli-cats, the cute shapes (I think the kibble was shaped like fish, chickens, and cows - in hindsight it should have been corncob, rice, and soybean shaped).   It was $3/box and had an AAFCO certificate.   So why should I pay $9/box for something with the same AAFCO certification?   We were totally duped by the system.    Had I known the pain and suffering years of eating this would cause I never would use it.   I knew something was wrong fairly soon when my cat became obese from all the carbs.   Little did I know what other havoc it was wreaking on her system until it was too late.   That`s the point people get to when they first start realizing how bad it is for their cat.   And then after mega vet bills they come to realize how the petfood industry-veterinary complex works in tandem to perpetuate this atrocity.

You know, it might be cheaper/safer to feed it homemade!! They are pure carnivores so how complicated could it be? I know that my cats ate less when I switched them to vet food. The vet said that was because they were getting more nutrition per bite. I couldn't hive up on my boy. His first ER trip when his kidneys started shutting down ran me about $5, 000. I cleaned out my savings, but took him home so I didn't care. Six months later, he was back in the hospital. It took 3 vets to convince me that he wasn't going to make it. Letting him go was the hardest thing I've ever done. I'm still paying off that bill, but the six extra months I got with him was worth every penny.

God bless you.

This is exactly how we are being abused by the system.   I`m not even going to ask what your `vet food` was because I know already.    Like you, we had already spent $3,000 on our cat with suspected kidney issues and at that point it became a decision to save our cat or support our daughter.

And the secret is out.... it can be cheaper to do homemade food - if you shop wisely.   Definitely healthier - like night and day difference.   And safe as long as proper food handling procedures are used and the necessary nutrients are added - veterinary protestations to the contrary.

Blue Buffalo is being taken to court by Purina right now, and I believe other pet food companies are getting in on it, too. The Blue Buffalo company used its advertising campaign to defame other companies' foods. As a result, Purina had Blue Buffalo's products tested by an independent third party. The result? By-products were found in their formulas, and there were rice hulls in their grain-free recipes. I got this information from a recent issue of Pet Product International.
