Vet Issue that really annoyed me

My cat had an issue a few months back that required an urgent vet visit. When I contacted her vet who does at home visits asking for an emergency/urgent appt, which I was happy to pay the extra fee for, I got no response by email.

The next day her secretary calls and tells me her next opening is in 10 days, and the next emergency visit is in 5. I was like "seriously-5 days is not an urgent visit!" The reception says, well maybe you can get her in faster to another vet."

So I ended up taking my cat to another vet with an actual office who was great and helped our issue.

A month later I get a follow up email from the at home vet saying "it's time for your yearly checkup!" (probably automated.)

What the hell!?

Wow 5 days!  My place has only once asked if I would wait till next day but usually they will get you in same day as long as you are aware that they REALLY are squeezing you in and there will be a wait.

My last vet pulled something though as we had a cat REALLY REALLY sick and knew it was bad so wanted to euthanize and they said not till tomorrow even though it was early morning weekday when I called.  So I ended up taking him to a new vet that said bring him right over.  Turned out they were FAST,good and cheaper so kept using them.  The vet had recently opened up a larger practice and soon as they did service changed a lot.

You can almost always opt out of the notices.

My vet has a fairly big practice with rotating vets but I have never had a problem getting my kitty in when needed. When she cut her paw a while ago they even said I could just bring her in, even though there were no appointments available until latter in the afternoon, and they would look at her between appointments. There is no excuse for bad service, especially when an emergency arises!

Unfortunately there is usually a wait for a home visit vet.  At least that is true here.  There are so few of them and they are booked up way out ahead.  That is a shame because a home visit is so much easier for a kitty but usually it is something that can only be used for routine checkups rather than for a sick pet.

I can more or less see my vet same day and a same day house visit if I call early. If I call late she'll come the next day.
I'm sure if it was an emergency she'd come the same day.
If I'd been treated like cocopuffsmom I'd stay with the new vet
If it's time for the yearly check take kitty to the new vet.
