Our 2 are excellent hunters ..  We live in the woods and have a Mouse problem .. We have tried all the safe alternatives to drive them away ..

Dryer sheets , Peppermint Oil . Live Traps ( then set them free in the woods.)  but they always manage to come back ..

So far the  Airedale has killed one and the Cats have killed 4  .. Strangely they don't eat them . Just leave them for us to clean up ..

Last night I heard a huge racket in the kitchen , ran out to see that one cat has a Mouse cornered ( still alive at this point ) ..

So  I did the  plastic bowl over and slide a piece of cardboard under  and my husband  set it free in the woods ..

You would think the dang mice would learn not to come in this house ..

I'm so glad we're not in an area where mice or other small critters make themselves unwelcome guests. I wouldn't have the heart to keep finding all those little corpses!

Mo used to be an indoor/outdoor cat, so he's hunted a bit before. Since we don't have much to hunt on a 10th floor apartment, if I find a fly in the bird room, I'll box it and take it out to the cats. Other than desperately pawing and mewing at the windows where a pigeon is casually sitting outside on our balcony, that's the most hunting they get outside of playtime though. They try to stare at, stalk, and chatter at the lovebirds but that is completely unacceptable behaviour in this home.

My cat has been an indoor cat her entire life, however I started taking her out for leashed walks. Her true cat instincts really came through as she tried to hunt the birds, bugs and lizards. It's quite comical as you can imagine: cat stalking a bird, sprints across the lawn to try and catch it, with me running as fast as I can to keep up with her! Ha! She now realizes that she can't catch the birds, but she still stalks the lizards, as she has learned where their houses are. She;s never caught anything outside.

When she's indoors, she loves hunting the spiders in the unfinished basement. She plays with them at first, then eats them. We're in an area where our spiders are safe and not poisonous so I'm not overly concerned if she eats them.

Sounds like you've got some excellent hunters on your hands! :)

Ruby is a definite hunter.   Since I adopted her she's never gone outside, but since she was brought to the shelter by someone who found her on the street, I suspect she's likely done her share of hunting.  As an indoor cat, she catches and eats any fly unfortunate enough to come in the house.

Aww , good job  Ruby .. Why is it that cats like to eat bugs so much ?

My girl also is a phenomenal spider hunter. I have never had mice but I suspect she would at least try to chase them.

Yeah , if she likes hunting spiders she probably would like the mice ..

I honestly don't know  why the mice bother coming in my house ..

We have 3 dogs  , all terriers.. The Airedale already killed one  & the cats 4 or 5 ..

My Malachy is indoor only ...he keeps the apartment fly & spider free ...and he enjoys the extra protein! (no poisonous spidies here)
