Hi...I'm a little concerned, my cat recently had her first kittens one died unfortunately :( he was born a day after the first one and was very weak. I don't know if this has something to do with how shes acting. She eats in very small amounts at a time. She will nibble a bit then leave and come back later for more and so on all day. She eats more when I'm there with her though which I'll do whenever I can, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ChristinaO44,

I'm so sorry to hear of your cat's lack of appetite. I hope you realize that lactating moms need quite a bit of food as a lot of the energy now is going to be in nursing the young babies. I have little experience with momcats, but I strongly recommmend you take her to a vet for professional diagnosis. All I know is that unless she intakes enough food on a daily basis, she is prone for hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) and may develop further liver complications or even death. You don't mention how old your momcat is...is she quite young? Some momcats can be too young for birthing, causing a whole slew of complications, too.

I'm hoping the best outcome for you, your momcat and all her little ones...please let us know how the vet examinations goes. Sending you & your kitties strength, calm, and healing vibes...

Thank you for your response. She is about a year and a half and the kitten seems to be growing well. I will post a picture so you can see the cutie :) today she ate really well. I brought her food to where she has the kitten, I think she just doesn't want to leave its side :)

If Mom is not losing weight and kitten is growing I would let it be if she seems ok.  Did she eat both sacs?
