My cat peed on my foot while I was asleep?

So I have a cat and her name is Sassy, and she's about 8-9 years old. Today I woke up to a wet foot after she jumped off the end of the couch. I sat up to look and it appears she peed on my foot while I was asleep. I assumed at first it was because she needed me to open the downstairs door (her litter and food is down there) and was trying to get my attention, but she kinda.. pooped beside it too.

Do you think she's trying to tell me something? I'd like to ignore it but she hasn't done this before.

If it's a one-time behavior, it may be due to lack of access to her litter box. However, if it happens again, I would recommend a vet visit. Any new toileting behavior could signal a medical issue.

How often do you clean your litter box? Is it always accessible? These are things you need to ask yourself. Like vball91 said, if it is only a one-time thing I wouldn't be concerned but if it continues to happen consult your vet.
