Ah yes, sleeping in that thing would be hard, I imagine. :D But it seems like he allows you to do pretty much anything, so switching between the two is probably the best solution. He can't be awake with that big cone and go about his things. Eleni couldn't get her balance or bearings with her cone and hers was flexible! Must be a nightmare for Theodore.

Oh but he does look incredibly cute in both cones.

No news is good news :) He is doing well so far, we're almost at the two week mark and the next 4 weeks are going to drag! We are so praying this works!

We are all hoping it works.

Did he end up wearing the collar you ordered? Did it work?

But you did manage to keep him from getting to his wound? I am so hoping it turns out well this time. I'm sure we all are!

The cone we ordered was too smal and he was able to reach it immediately. As of today, he has figured out how to get around this grey donut cone we've made too! So it's back to the big old horrible cone he has on in the photo above. Poor thing, he's really sulking and letting us know how much he hates it!

Wait, and when did you have to take him in again? Will they know immediately if everything went ok? Or is it just going to be a horrible few weeks of waiting for the worst to happen?

It must be killing your nerves.. Poor Theodore. He looks so miserable (and cute :p) with his cone. I really hope everything will turn out well. No doubt you've deserved some peace of mind after all this.

No, we only took him in two weeks ago when he pulled the whole thing out, stitches and all. How it didn't hurt or he didn't show it was amazing. When that happened, it reset the wait time back to 6 weeks, so really, its 8 weeks all up lol.

Yeah, it's killing our nerves, because we will have a wait and see period after the 6 weeks to see if it will close again. Theodoretically, it shouldn't because hopefully skin will have grown around in inside the opening where the catheter is. It should leave a healed "stoma" opening that should have completed it's healing process. People have asked us about infection but the cathether isn't going all the way into the bladder, it's only maybe 1/4 inch in length and he has still retained full control of his bladder.

I guess another way to look at it the way people put those stretchers into their ears and they are left with a sealed opening. That's what we're aiming for :)

Theodore has taken a turn for the worst. I posted in my uthrostomy thread that he vomited on Monday night. A few days later he is no better.
I'll give a quick run down for those who never read my original thread here http://www.thecatsite.com/t/278225/uthrostomy-closed-over/30#post_3593186

Theodore had urinary obstruction that was unblocked, he was unblocked and he blocked again. He had catheters for weeks at time and eventually we opted for PU surgery. That failed after two weeks and we had it done again. Then he picked up and we had our loving goofy happy cat back for a good few weeks.
Fast forward to this week, he projectile vomited on Monday and ever since then he hasnt wanted to eat. He has lost weight and he just just generally unhappy.
We took him to the vet this morning as he vomited again at 2am this morning after we fed him some pureed cat food. The vet checked him over and said that yes he's defintely not well. His temp is 102.7 and his blood sugar level was 202. He has taken blood work but he feels that Theodores kidneys are shutting down. We will know more tomorrow.

Is there a chance that Theodore will pick up or is time to say goodbye. Is it possible that the bloodwork will show something else other than kidney failure? I'm devastated at the thought of losing him now.
Did he have any problems peeing or pooping after his PU surgery??

It has always taken Theodore 3-5 days to poop after surgery. As for peeing, when he had it done the first two times, it was clear something wasn't quite right with his peeing within the first week of having it done. One of the times, he had a plug at the end of the urethra, but it was like a soft gel that was east to dislodge. He never got fully reblocked but for us, his wounds were growing over but that didn't happen until about week 3. Our cat was a highly unusual case where he just seems to have an overactive inflammatory process that caused him to heal more than he should have.

So did he have to get more surgeries after his first PU?

Yes, he had it done a further 2 times and both of those failed because he healed too much, now he has a temporary urinary stent for 4-6 weeks to try get it to heal without closing over. As I said though, my cat has an over inflammatory process which is causing his body to overheal beyond what it needs to. It's an unusual situation that no specialist or vet has seen in a cat before Theodore.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope he recovers soon. I'm scared that my cat will have to go through more trauma and surgery. This is the worst time ever. I sometimes wish we didn't do the surgery. He was only blocked once and we went straight to surgery. Maybe we should have given him other options :(

I am truly wishing you all the best with Theodore. You have to remember you have and are doing everything to make him better.  When you get the blood work you know better.  It killed me to put Franny to sleep July 22/14 but today i know it was the right time.  She was never going to get better.  If you are confronted with this, which I will pray tonight you will not have to be, consider what it must feel like for Theodore while his kidneys are shutting down.  In people world we medicate till we pass.  Theodore could be in a lot of pain going forward if its bad news.  Franny was wagging her tail ever so slightly and then I let her go.  It was very peaceful and broke my heart at the same time.  Keep us posted and enjoy every minute as I know you will.

Hmm, maybe there might be some confusion? Theodore is doing great at the moment while has the stent in :) It's what will happen in another 3-4 weeks that is going to be hard all over again. I think if it doesn't work again after they remove the stent we will have to say goodbye. My hubby and I have agreed we won't try anymore, we will just let God do what He needs to do and if he really needs Theodore to join him, then so be it. It will hurt like crazy but we will let go to be kind and know that we have done all that we can.

But let's hope it won't come to that! He's great at the moment!

I think as I said before the most important thing is that you tried EVERYTHING.   I tried everything but got there to late to make a change in Franny's life.   Going forward you and Theodore will look forward to a better life ahead.  Prayers for all of you.

I take great comfort in that Robinathome. I'm just enjoying the days with him as they go by and we will with what comes, when it does. So it's lots of photo and video taking of him so we have plenty to treasure. When he passes, be tomorrow, 6 months or 16
years from now I plan on getting a tattoo of him done so he can be with me everywhere I go.
