You deserve  a medal for even managing to get through this topic in one sitting! And to think through all of this, I've managed to keep working and raise 4 kids with my husband. It's been an epic journey that isn't over yet. We still have 4-6 weeks to go!

I repeat, please take some time off after all this is over. It's a mircale you haven't tipped over from exhaustion yet.

I'll be following this thread from now on. And I know we are all helping you hope for a happy ending.

Thanks Bonepicker! We are all tired tonight, but at least we managed to have the procedure done in one day and take him home so we kept occupied and went to Ikea for the first time and then saw a movie. Was worth it to not have to do a double trip back tomorrow. The cone he now has on is double the length outwards compared to his previous cone. I've already worked out how to raise the height of his food and water dishes so he can eat/drink easily. He just has to learn how to maneuver the cone to get around the edges of the dishes but he can do it if I guide him to it. I'll add a photo of his new cone so you can see just how large it is but the previous cone he learned how to get at his wound after awhile lol.

I burst out laughing when we pulled him out of the carrier. I knew the surgeon wanted a larger cone but THIS big?! Even the surgeon was kind of cracking jokes about it but he did say that he wanted to be absolutely sure he can't get to the catheter. We're not taking any chances now.  I do feel really bad for him but he'll get closely supervised time without it. I'm a bit worried about fluid intake but that's the black dish in the background in the photo. He should be able to lap water from it because its full to the top with fresh water.

Did that even fit in the carrier?

I feel bad for him too, but it does look funny. And kinda cute!

It did..... just lol. We have a flexible fabric carrier rather than a hard basket type one. We ended up having him hang out in the car with us for the 3 hour trip home to make it more pleasant for him. Right now he's having snuggles and cone-off time with hubby while a movie is running :)

It's massively annoying, he's super depressed with it on! So I have ordered a Kong cloud inflatable collar and I'm going to give that a go. I read reviews that were mostly for dogs. Some people say it didn't work and others did. It just depends where the wound is so im hoping that with a fat collar he won't be able to get to it.  It's worth a try because the next 4-6 weeks with the cone he has now will be very frustrating!

Ah, well it is much better. I'm guessing it's still not quite comfortable, but at least he has a better view on things, so it doesn't screw too much with his balance. When Eleni had the cone she couldn't see what she was doing and she kept falling over. Or she tripped when she wanted to jump on something. I guess this sort of cone is much better. Maybe I should order one too, just in case I might need one in the future.

So far it's been about an hour now since we put it on, he hasn't even bothered trying to fight it. I guess he's happy enough for now. The test will be when he gets an itch and just HAS to do something about it. That said, we're regularly brushing him to help with the itchies cats get.

Theodore reminds me SO much of my Sebastian, except Theodore is gray and Sebastian is black/brown. So tolerant and sweet with the long coat. Your homemade collar is genius!

I found a tutorial on an eHow page. It's getting us through til the proper one arrives. The only thing I noticed was that he wouldnt nap in it. When I put the big bucket on his head he promptly laid down and went to sleep. Poor thing! I wasn't brave enough to leave the homemade one on overnight so he slept in the bucket one. I've just put the homemade one so he can have some freedom and we are here to monitor him with it.
