Hi everyone! Been out of the loop here, was recuperating from my knee surgery. Plus, life in general has kept me from posting (i.e. Work)
Anyway, I just found out this coming weekend is the annual Cat Show in Somerset NJ. Anyone going or showing? Tom and I are going to try and go. Hope my knee hold up LOL

Hi Laurie !!!!! I think you meant to put in July instead of June for the Cat Show! Boy - I love going to cat shows. The vendor's have such great kitty items for purchase too. Did you go? Come home with any purebreds? :D Good to hear from you. :hugs: :hugs:

Haha! Yes you are right!  Just last week.

We went on Saturday.  It was a little disappointing this year; less vendors (our rescue friend agreed, she was there with her organization for adoptions) and the a/c didn't seem to be working very well.  Was far too warm.  I don't think kitties were happy lol.

We also got there too early.  Seemed that most cats were already taken for judging so, we didn't get a chance to do a meet and greet with many breeders.  We did, however, totally fall in love with a 4 month old Singapura.  She and my BF became very enamored with each other but, alas, I don't think she was for sale nor would we have the money for a pure breed right now anyway!  But, she was very talkative (which we like), and lovey and just had this amazing personality in general.  A breed we never considered before if we ever do want a pure breed but now, may have to.

So, we didn't buy anything other than some peacock feathers (which both of ours loved), some t-shirts to support our local rescue and Weruva gave me a free can of one of the TruLuxe line flavors we had not tried yet (they happen to be on our current rotation so it was really appreciated).

Over all, somewhat disappointing but a nice day out.  It was the first time I'd spent that much time walking around since the surgery and it did me in but good for the rest of the day.

Oh, our fav rescue did win a prize.  One of their cats won "Biggest Couch Potato" lol.  They have a 30 pound male tuxie for adoption.  I saw him a few weeks ago and he is TREMENDOUS.  On a diet, losing slowly!

:lol3: :lol2: OH MY - THAT IS a FAT CAT !!!!! I hope his diet works and yet at the same time keeps him happy. Sounds like you had a nice time but no a/c???!!! How awful for the show kitties. I always enjoy the vendors too when I get a chance to go to a show. Always pick up some wand toys, feather toys and wool handmade kitty balls with catnip.

Singapura's are gorgeous, beautiful cat's. Very, very talkative, I think. Look a bit like my Siamese Flame point mix, Pipsqueak. He can actually say the word "Ma Ma" so clearly that you would not believe it. I fell in love with the most adorable Burmese kitten last year while at a CFA show. My friend and I kept going back to visit the Burmese kittens. I had to pry myself away from the kitten that day. I, too, would not have the money to spend on a purebred NOR would I feel right about doing so because I know there are SOOOO many in shelters that are just as beautiful. But, I totally get why one would want a purebred kitty. I just with I could have MORE but am at (over....) my limit with the six I have already.

I hope your knee is feeling better by now after all of that walking around. :cross: Nice to chat with you as always and chatting about cat's is always fun too. :D :rub:

I dug up a photo of Albert, the fat kitty.  Credit goes to Julia at Summit Animal Rescue.

When I saw him at the pet store on adoption day, I was confused at first.  I saw his black head, white neck and, what I thought was he was hiding in a black fluffy bag.

The bag was HIM.  I couldn't believe it.  Poor thing.  His owner was an elderly woman who evidently couldn't say "no" to treats.  She became very ill, and thus, he was put into foster care until he finds his next home.

The foster mom has him on a good diet now.  He's losing slowly.

Oh and the a/c was on - it just was either set too high, or not working right.  Yes, not good for cats...or people.

And, I also don't think we'd ever pay for a pure breed, as much as there are a few we really like (Maine Coon for one).  I agree that there are so very many cats who need good homes, and we have one.  Every now and then, we joke about a 3rd but honestly, it isn't a good idea right now for many reasons.  Unless of course, one just happens to jump into my car or house lol.  Then, well, it would be hard to say no :D

OH please forgive the following--> :spit: :flail: :lol3:  Because the look on his face is priceless and so helpless, because of his name AND that you thought his body was a "hidey bag"!!! I just want to pick him up and snuggle him up and tell him how adorable he is. What a trooper and I hope to hear someday that he has lost all of that weight. GOOD LUCK TO JULIA and to ALBERT!!! YOU CAN DO IT !!!!! :cross:

And - I thought I would be stopping at four (indoor) cats. Now I have six. :lol3: Three would be a walk in the park for me right now. ;)

I felt the same way.  I just want to make him better and love him.

Alas, we just can't add another kitty now.  Tom went back to school full time, and most nights I don't get home from NYC until after 7pm (and, we both leave early in the morning).  Let alone the expense of another cat and one with special needs at that.

We could never give him the attention he currently needs.  But, this organization is great at placements and, all cats are in foster care until they find homes for them.  A great group of very loving cat guardians.

I get all smiley hearing about such a great group of cat rescuers! Foster care is really such a blessing for these kinds of kitties. Two of my six were "fosters" and that was almost four years ago. Note the word "were". They both have to go together, brothers, and one of them has special needs and requires daily medication so hard to place hence they are still with me. :heart3: Adding more cats certainly does hit the pocketbook and many other facets of our lives so you are smart to know your limits at the moment. :hugs:

We traveled from So.Cal. to go to this show.  The 9th International Ragdoll Congress was held there and we were showing our 1.5 year old seal colorpoint.  We enjoyed the show although I felt like I walked 5 miles :)

Wish I had known you were there before we went!  I would have loved to say hello.

Ragdolls are one of my favorite breeds.  We nearly adopted a purebred.   Gorgeous cat, but unfortunately the owners didn't socialize her properly and she was not a happy kitty.  We didn't think we were up to the task of resocializing her (did, however, help get her back to the breeder who did and eventually adopted her back out).

I agree about the walking lol.  It's a very big indoor space, let alone that HUGE parking lot to navigate if you don't get there early and snag a good spot :D
