I adopted my cat Mouse from a rescue group.
He has always had a little bit of eye discharge. I unfortunately can't afford to go to the vet at this time. [emoji]128575[/emoji]
The discharge color ranges from clear to yellowish. Is there any medicine I can buy & try to help him. There are vet visits in his future!! Just this time right now is really tight.
Look forward to any helpful advise.

It sounds like an eye cold or infection. I'm not sure how serious they are but I think if it's bad enough then it can cause blindness. You can try keeping the eye clean with a warm, wet rag but don't be too rough about it. You can try looking for any local places that might look at him for little to no cost. Maybe angels for animals or a vet school, if you have any. Maybe they even sell drops at a pet supply store. I don't know much about eye colds/infections. I wish you and kitty the best of luck

If there are no other signs up an upper respiratory infection (you can google the common symptoms), I would think it is feline herpes which is very common. My cat has it as well and his eye used to be constantly watery and goopy. You can give him lysine, which is a supplement that will boost the immune system (500mg twice a day is the dose for herpes flareups). I buy the powdered version online and add to my cat's food, but you may be able to find lysine caplets in the drugstore which you can crush and add to food as well. And of course, try to keep the area clean as well.
