Missing Mickey July 4 2001- July 8 2014

Trying to find a buddy for a cat is really shooting blindfolded. They could become good friends or be mortal enemies - you never know. And if they don't get along it raises the stress level which is not a good thing.

Thanks so much for listening to me go on and go .Shadow is starting to come around more and get closer to me . Maybe I am overreacting. Who knows?? I am still missing my Mickey too so that could be a part of it.I guess I need Shadow to love and need me.It just seems that he goes to my husband more.Maybe he misses him since my husband is gone all day.Shadow seems to know I am always around.I do know that he loves us both.I dont feel I am ready for an additional cat.I like the idea of just having Shadow for now.Hug Mikki.I hope she is adjusting a little better since the loss of Minnie.Take Care!!

Yes Zoneout it seems that a cat will get more attached to one particular family member.There may not always be a reason for that or a way to explain it .It just is.It is hardto figure a cat out or to know what he may be thinking.I am sure the cat loves all the family members though.Yes it can also be hard if adopting a second cat.The cats may hate each other making things worse.I had two cats at one point.They never got along.I had to monitor them constantly and at times keep them seperated.I prefer showering one special cat with all my love.It can be different with siblings or cats who were raised together as kittens.

That would be my worst fear... if Mikki wouldn't accept a new sibling....

Yes I know what you mean MnM.You just never know how one cat will act towards another.Mikki may not accept another cat simply because that cat would not be her Minnie.Mikki may just enjoy being the only cat for awhile.

I think so too. And I'm totally fine with that. shhhh don't talk too loud about getting another one

Yes MnM I also feel that Shadow is happy in his new home right now .I think he enjoys being the only cat and getting so spoiled.At times though he still acts like he is afraid. I can only imagine what his life was like previously .I hope Mikki is doing good and coping more with the loss of Minnie.Hugs to you both!!

Yes MnM I think we have all given our precious furbabies amazing lives.They are all most likely very spoiled. I know Shadow already taken over my home and feels he is the boss.It's fine though.I don't mind one bit.How is your Mikki doing?? I hope she is not grieving as much anymore.I know you must still be mourning the loss of your Minnie as I am still grieving over my Mickey.There are just some days that I can't stop missing him and wonder will it ever get better?? thank you. Mikki is definitely grieving..she's not the same Mikki. She still gets up a couple times in the night and sits and cries. In the day she stays close to me... and sometimes will go get on Minnie's chair. Today I actually got out some of Minnie's fur to let Mik smell it and soothe talked to her..but she was more interested in the plastic bag I had it in , giggle, so I shed the tear instead haha. I think because it was so traumatic for me for Minnie's diagnosis and what we would have to go through and put her through to "try" to pull her though it.... I was so upset with that wretched feeling in my stomach...that when I finally just prayed and said...I can't take this on my shoulders alone... a peace truly came over me...and within the week she had more signs of not doing well .. in which I could make the decision with a clear mind and so there was a sense of relief knowing she wouldn't have to go through such a battle any more. The grief I have felt since... is still deep seeded in peace. Funny though how BOOM it can hit you like a brick and you cry instantly. One thing I haven't been able to do...is look under the washer/dryer or couch or dressers for fear to find one of her lil headbands she played "hockey" with. Sometimes she would leave one on my pillow... or my shoe... aaahhhhg they are so sweet aren't they???? I hope you can feel time's healing and peace soon!!

I feel the same way. There are some days I still miss her so much. To the point of tears. It's lonely without her.

MnM, that picture of the headband is very touching. The little things they do...... Though I could do without the moles Max would leave for me on the back patio. Lol.

Oh it is sad that Mikki still cries at night.She is surely missimg her Minnie.I guess she needs time to adjust just like we all do.It is hard on us and I am sure it is just as hard on the pets as well.She must not understand where did Minnie go?? Just that thought brings tears to my eyes.I know what you mean about not wanting to find toys or things that our passed babies have played with.Mickey used to love playing with these small soft cat balls.He would chase and push them around the floor.It was the only toy he really liked so he had many many of them.I thought I had them all put away but I guess he had some hidden.Shadow has found a few of them and also loves playing with them.I have brought Shadow many toys but not those particular balls as they remind me of my Mickey.Now Shadow comes running to me with the ball wanting me to play.Of course I am letting him play with them as he likes them so much.It does make me cry though as I can see Mickey playing with them.Shadow also enjoys Mickey's cat condo and his favorite window.I think he smells Mickey and somehow he feels safe.Yes I do still miss my Mickey SO much.I think I always will.I had other cats who have passed but I can't seem to get over Mickey's.Maybe someday?? Yes the little headband on your shoe is so touching! It is making me cry.Yes the sweet and loving things our babies do.I know we will always miss them! Hope Mikki starts to heal soon!

Yes Zoneout I understand completely.It is very lonely when our babies pass.We have good days and bad days.There are days when I just cry over my Mickey.I miss him so much and it is lonely without him.I do know you miss your baby as well.It is so hard to deal with.

thank you... I honestly contribute so much of my healing due to this forum and people like you guys. Ya know... I think reading what so many others like yourselves have gone through... it kinda turns my focus on others and not myself and my grief... it's healing to encourage others. (big hugs) for the both of you for being so kind hearted to support others.

Yes MnM I know what you mean about this forum.It is truly great.Everyone on here tries to help each other.We all understand how the other one feels as we have all suffered similar losses.It is good to try and help someone else to heal.It can take your mind off your own loss as well.I have come to think of many of you as friends like you MnM.It would be great to have a friend like you! I hope Mikki is doing well and coping a little more.It is heartbreaking to think of her missing Minnie.I hope you are coping and healing as well.Take Care!!

December 8th will be five months since the loss of my Mickey. I still miss him terribly and find myself crying over his pictures. The holidays are not making it any easier as they are making me miss him even more. Christmas is almost here and my Mickey won't be here to share the day with me. I still talk to him (his pictures) every night and day. I wish him good morning and good night. I let him know how much I miss him and love him. I hope he knew how much he was loved. He was truly a special kitty!! At times, my heart feels so empty without him. He will be in my heart forever!! I love you my precious Mickey!! I only hope you knew how much.
