Hi, I recently purchased a home. And the previous owner left 13 cats outside .some are friendly and some are shy. We were able to relocate 5 of them. There are two kittens and I'm not sure who the Mom even is..they are always alone. Well tonight I heard one screaming and I went out and a big cat that I haven't seen here before was biting the kitten. I scared it away and at 1 a.m. I heard it screaming again..the big cat was back! :( I brought the baby inside and she was so scared crying and hiding..she wanted back out with her sibling so as much as I didn't want to I put her back out.. and then the screaming started again and I looked out the window and the big cat had her by the neck biting her really hard..I made up my mind to bring her inside but I can't catch her now. I can't go to sleep knowing the kittens are going to be in danger! How can I get this cat to stay away?!

In much it depends on how much you want to help the kittens.  The best for them is if you catch them and adopt.  Or foster them some and socialize, and find them adoption homes.

With a little luck you can talk them sweetly into visiting your home.  Or go into a carrier with food inside.   (plan it some so they wont disappear again!)

You can  possibly catch them wrapping them up in a towel.     DONT let them out once they are inside!!!

How old are they?  Roughly.

The tom isnt attacking them for real.  It is possibly a dominance thing, but probably he does mount them, sees them as females.  Its not nice for them, but I hope not necessary giving severe damages in these parts.  Especielly if they are of age, ie in heat for real.

The tom?  You can of course shout at it, stamp with your foot, perhaps throw some old shoes at him.  But it wont help much, nor protect these kittens.  Especielly not if they although young are of age and had come into heat.

But catching it, the tom, and letting it be neutered, will be a nice gift to him, and help the cats in the neigbourhood.   It wont help at once, but perhaps in a months.

IF they are of age, and can be pregnant (good, its practically a quarantee they wont be severely hurt by this rape) - it means also  you should spay them as soon you can do it.

Please come back with new reports and question.

We shall try and guide you, as long you are sincerely wanting to help them.

Good luck!

I have to ask, are you interested in adopting that little kitten, or is your focus on protecting her in the outdoor colony? I took in a feral kitten last summer that was between 3-4 months old, I think it was closer to 3. I put him in a room by himself with everything he needed. He sat on my air conditioner and cried non-stop for 36 hours (yes, it was exactly 36 hours!) and didn't eat or use the litter box. I was alarmed, and on the verge of putting him back outside. Then I picked him up in my arms and he started to knead me and purr, and I kissed him and held him and he became my forever cat. He still sat in the windows and cried early in the morning for an hour or two every day for another few weeks, and then he really settled down and the crying stopped. If you want to take the kitten inside and adopt and socialize her, she is going to cry for a few days, that is normal--especially if her mom and dad cats are outside. If she is still young, though, she will likely settle down and accept you as her human caregiver.

Yeah, there's no much you can do about keeping the unwanted tom away. You can't be outside 24/7 to police him. Usually if he is invading another group of cats' space, the alpha cat in the group will chase the intruder away. If that doesn't occur, then trapping and neutering him would reduce his aggression.

Thanks so much! And I want to keep the kittenwith me. I just diddidn't know what to do with her crying I felt sooo bad..he attacked the kitten two other times last night so I didn't get any sleep. It is very hard to catch the kitten. When I feed the outside cats the kitten won't even come over til the other cats are done and after I went inside. I'm not sure on the age I can post a picture. I think im gonna try to catch her tonight and bring her inside and keep her in here. Any tips for soothing her?

What do you mean it won't let you post a picture? Does it give an error message or what is going wrong. Perhaps I can help you figure it out. Otherwise yes I can PM you my email.
