Hey All:
I have never been on a cat forum before but I am having some serious problems with my 1 years old Boy cat.

Last week he started pulling on his back paws and running and hiding in corners. I took him (Bronx) to the vet and he had a pretty high fever. 105--the vet gave him medicine and antibiotics and told me to come back the next day--so I went van vert single day all week and his temp finally fell to around 102 on Friday. Saturday and Sunday he became very lethargic. I brought him back to the vet 1st thing this morning and he was 106!!!!

My vet went into panic mode and started giving him shots if medicine and the vet said that he needed him to stay with him. I pretty much lost my mind and started bawling when the took him out of the room. I felt like I was in a ER the way they started working on my guy.

They vet tech called me at 3:30pm and told me that his temp is now 104 and he isn't bit dehydrated so they are giving him fluids under his skin...

I guess my 1st question is...has anyone had a cat that has had a fever like this and made it through it? I am seriously beside myself. He has never been sick.

Any input would be great. I just feel so helpless.

Yes your cat has a very good chance of being fine, but it's obviously serious and sounds like an infection of some kind. It will take treatments and some time, and some $, but i think your cat has a very good chance, unless the cause of the fever is something very bad.  Has the vet tested for anything ?

They have had him since yesterday at 10am they said that they were going to start some tests but they did not tell me which test they were going to do.

When they took him they said he was not dehydrated but then when they called they said that so far the tests only showed dehydration.

The vet asked me if he had been tested for feline leukemia and I said that he has had the vaccine so the doc is testing him for that.

I haven't heard anything yet and it's 8:30am and it's killing me a little bit. I was also curious if they had someone there overnight to keep an eye on him. I'll ask that today.

Ok keep us updated.  Very few clinics that I know of in NYC or anywhere, unless they are full vet hospitals keep someone overnight.

I wish I would have just taken him home. What's good about in him being in a cage alone for 15+ hours Aaaggh. I hope to hear from them soon!

Hopefully it wasn't that long but they can have him on fluids overnight using a metering device and he was looked at right before they closed and as soon as they have the morning people show up.

Okay so The Vet called and said that he did great overnight and that is temperature is back to normal. He is not drinking or eating so that is the problem at the moment. I asked them what the tests results have came back with and he said so far the biggest thing is that he has Zero White Blood Cells. Zero--so that is the reason he is not getting any better.

He would like him to stay until he can figure out something. So I don't think he will be coming home tonight.

I also asked them if someone is there over night with them to watch him in case his fever gets too high. He said that they leave at 8pm and they make sure that all animals are stable. If they have any doubt that they will not be stable they will call the owner and refer them to another clinic in the city

Thank you so much for taking the time out to respond to my post (-:

Last night we had good news, the fever was staying down but he had not eaten anything or went to the bathroom so they wanted to keep him another night to watch him.

This morning I stopped in to the office because I was in the area and was hoping I could see him.  The news was that he did urinate but that the fever was going up again!!! Seriously I do not know what to do. Why is this happening and with the white blood cells I can only fear something terrible.

My heart is heavy.

Anyone find it strange that a 1 yo indoor only cat has zero white blood cells?   That means basically immune system is shot.  Hopefully this was an incorrect reading of the blood test result.   Only times I heard of this is through very rare hereditary desease.   What else could cause this?

It can and does happen with Panluek, ie, feline distemper. I have also seen it in cats that were given to much chemotherapy.

He has never had chemotherapy.

He seems to be almost back to normal. Yesterday he ate a lot and actually played with his sister.

I've never had a cat get a fever before and bounce right back like nothing. He was so sick for 2 weeks. This is so did to me.

The vet wants him back to redo blood work
