I just had the afternoon/early evening that was terrible because of great technology.

My internet went out right after I logged on for work at around 2 p.m.  I call so called tech support went through the whole reboot thing told they couldn't get out to fix it until Thursday afternoon, a real problem for someone who works from home.  Drove to a bad part of town to try exchanging the modem, still not working.  Called customer service, my cell phone gave out on me while talking to the CR, it was an old phone that had been acting funny for awhile.  Went to buy a new cell phone, called customer service back.  Turns out there was an outage involving about 100 homes in my area it just came back on.

The so called tech support apparently knew nothing about it.  In the meantime it's now 7:45 in the evening and I haven't got any time in yet for work.  Gotta love it.

Omigosh, that's aggravating to say the least!  I think the part that bugs me the most is customer service these days.  What good does it do to call them?  They put in an "escalation call" or whatever but no one calls you back.  The services today seem to rely on their competitors being worse than them rather than giving service to begin with.

Sorry this happened to you.  I can certainly appreciate your frustration.

Yuck. It irks me when you tell them that your internet goes out and they tell you they'll come fix it some other day. For many of us who rely on internet to make a living, that is just plain unacceptable. I find that usually if I make enough of a noise (keep insisting on speaking to someone up the chain), eventually, miraculously, they'll find a slot to fit you in the same day.

Of course, if it's a block-wide outage then there's nothing they can do, but it's no excuse that the tech did not know this.

I'm glad it came back on and you're OK now. But no work means no pay.  There is no customer service these days.....it's frustrating enough when something goes bad. But then you try to reach somebody who's supposed to know what's going on and you get nothing.

Ugh! Sorry you had such a rough day.  Technology is nice, but we rely on it so much that when it gets interrupted, our lives are pretty much on hold.  For example, at work we do electronic charting, so if the computers are down we can't chart, we can't review the patient's chart, can't process their bloodwork etc.  Disaster!

We also used to have our in house tech support, still do actually.  Only we can't call them directly now, we have to go through the Government healthcare tech support, so what used to be fixed instantly, now takes upwards of 3 or 4 days to get resolved.

This is why I love having a boyfriend who has complete IT education and knows how to or will figure out how to fix our technology stuff if it quits working!

Plus he can call customer service for things like our internet and talk techy terms with the representatives until he confuses them and they pass him off to someone that knows what he is saying

This happened to me before too. To fix that, l searched and found a forum where customers report outages in their area, so that's the first place l look from a work computer now if something goes down.

l also have VoIP phone and got rid of cellphone, so if my internet goes down l'll have to drive to a pay phone to call for help.

One thing good came out of it and that was a new cell phone.  I know I had needed one for awhile but I was too cheap to get one.  I was turning my old one off and back on to get it working, it was so locked up it wouldn't even turn off.  It was a smart phone but an old basic one, the internet was very slow and it was hard to type anything on it.

I got a Galaxy 4.  The Galaxy 5 is out now so the Galaxy 4 was a decent price.  All of the electronics get upgraded so quick, the Galaxy 4 was the latest greatest android phone just a year ago.  When the next one comes out the prices on the previous model drop really fast.  People who try to keep up with electronics would go broke trying to keep up with the latest and greatest.
