Hi everyone my cat diego is male 8 to 9 yrs. I found him 2 yrs ago. I was about to get him netured when he got out of the house. He came back 2days latter. He had an ugly looking bite on the side of his face and some other bites as well. I took him to a vet and the bite on his face was infected. We got him an antibiotic shot. But the vet said I should wait for 4 to 6 months to have him neuterd because of the possibilty of feline lukeima or fiv. I'm kinda confused about this dose this sound right? I have the cat in a farly large cage with a window so he won't get out. Just not sure what to now don't wanna keep him caged up for that long. And too many people going in and out to watch all the time.Sorry this is so long just not sure what to do. I need him in the cage for now give him time to heal.

I think the concern is that he'll get either one since he was bitten and those are transmitted through deep bite wounds.  However, if he's been vaccinated previously, I don't think you have too much to be concerned about.  I would get him tested for FIV and FeLV and then proceed with the neutering.  As long as he's recovered from the infection, he should be good to go on the neutering.  Also, if he tests positive, it's not a death sentence and he can still live many years with a good quality of life.  If need be, I'd take him to a different vet for a second opinion.
