I found him as orphaned kitten. He has not been outside since. The vet said he had a heart murmur as a kitten and still does. Does this mean he will have a short lifespan?

Most murmurs are harmless.  The vet that heard the murmur can tell you more about its effects on this cat.  Did he determine a cause of the murmur?

Many kittens will outgrow a murmur.  All it means is there is an extra sound in the heart, a valve often that isn't closing exactly right.  Murmurs are graded on a scale, you could ask what your kitten's murmur is graded, but many if not most cats will live a full life.  If the kitten doesn't outgrow the murmur and its a significant murmur then you may want to do imaging to see what the cause is, which may result in treatment options or simply peace of mind if you discover that it isn't a disease issue.
