I took in a stray female cat two days ago today I notice this open wound on her upper shoulder bone. Nickel size, no blood. Looks like a chunk was removed.. Very oddly round and smooth margined. Will peroxide prevent infection until is closes up. Could it be a disease or? What to do?

Hi. To me it looks like a burn. Pretty good sized area. I would try to take her to a vet if you can for antibiotics and an exam. I wouldn't use peroxide as it destroys tissue. Nice of you to take her in.

Unfortunately this time of year retards with fireworks and cats are a bad combination.   If you could see a vet of course would be great.   If you cant afford it, there are organizations that will help.

@Quiet wasn`t aware about peroxide destroying tissue.   I always used it for some of my wounds.   Are u sure about that?

Is it ok to use neo sporin on an open wound? The wound formed a scab but she keeps licking it and when it opened up a light white puss came out. She cleaned it by licking but I'm looking to try something else from the drug store. One lady recommended something called betadine? I guess it's sold at rite aide.. Can any one giver advice as to which I should use first..

I know for a FACT my vet was VERY against peroxide for use due to it causing more issues with tissue then it prevents.  That was about 10 years ago.

Yes I havnt used peroxide but twice to clean it but now should I use betadine on it and should I use neo sporin after or in combination? Then should I shave and cover the wound with steri strips?

Tough to keep her from wanting to lick it. I assume it's itching and painful. Does anyone know what's best to cover an open wound that can breath and be cat friendly? Should I shave around it?

I wouldn't use betadine either.  Maybe neosporin, but only if it does NOT contain pain reliever in it.  You don't want her to ingest that pain reliever.  I wouldn't use steri strips until it's looked at by a vet.  We don't know if the body is trying to expel something, or if you might accidentally close some germ inside the wound.

If you want to "wash" it, use plain sterile saline solution like for contact care.  That has the same tonicity as the body cells/fluid and won't destroy new cells.
