My kitten is currently getting over a URI and he has a stuffed up nose, I tried hot showers and a humidifier is running all the time in our room, he currently is on medication so is there something else I can do? does chicken broth with 0 sodium help him? or is there a special medicine I can get from a vet to clear his nose? I keep it clean and since hes small I cant really get the mucus out any tips?

Check the list of ingredients on the chicken broth. Most contain onions and garlic which are not good for cats.

I know if his URI is caused by a viral infection, all the antibiotics in the world would not help him. It only prevents a secondary infection from forming. I'd try leaving him in a bathroom with the humidifier on for about 20 minutes at a time to make sure it's nice and steamy and no air gets out. You can do this for 3 times a day.

My other suggestion is to buy L-lysine capsules from a health food store for humans. Get ones in the capsule with powder inside, and empty 250 mg into his wet food once a day to see if it helps. L-lysine works by stopping viral replication in his system, and once viruses are more manageable, it will enable the kitty's immune system to beat it back into remission. Often, a kitty's URI symptom occurs due to stress, such as a new environment. Try to keep his stress levels low by keeping up a normal routine and not introducing any new changes for a while (no new foods, new litter, new cleaning products, for example) until he is completely healed.

Hope this helps your kitten improve! Sending healing vibes to your precious little one!

I'd make the chicken broth over buying it.  Just boil chicken and/or bones and offer it alone or in food.

I would not touch the 3rd eyelid, especially with as much going on with his eyes.  Just make sure you get medication into the eye. The 3rd eyelid is so delicate as are many other parts of the eye.

does his 3rd eye lid block the medication? Or does it stikl get through and do what needs to be done?

If your kitty has weepy eyes, I'd use a warm washcloth and use that to wipe goobers from his eyes and careful not to touch his third eyelid. You can also use saline water and a clean gauze, and wipe several times a day as needed using a fresh cotton gauze each time. Do this before applying the medications as instructed. Good luck!

Good question!  The medications will "slide" under the 3rd eyelid.
thank you so much!! So happy this site exists, I think my vet would stop answering my calls with all the questions I have haha
