I just found out that she went in today for a biopsy to check for cancer. This would be the 3rd or 4th time she has had it if it comes back positive.
I have talked to her several times this week but she has never mentioned anything, I think that she doesn't want me to worry, but then my dad told me today. Almost all of the women in my family have had cancer, none of the guys, so I guess I have a lot to look forward too
. My grandma is a very strong, gutsy woman and I have faith that if it is cancer again, she'll work through it, but I hope that it's not because the whole process is so draining for her, and she's such a good person I don't want her to have to go through this again. if I could take it from her I would in a second because she is the best. Please send some vibes that the tests come back negative!! Thanks you guys I really truly appreciate this.

I just talked to her and she sounded so exhausted, only said a sentence or two, that she made it home, and now she's going to sleep. I'm a little worried as usually she's a night owl up to midnight or so, but I guess the whole hospital thing tires you out. I hope she's ok ..

I'm sending vibes and prayers your way. If you need someone to talk to, talk to me. I understand reason being: my grandma(who I live with) found out she had uterine cancer a month or 2 ago and had a full hyserectomy. She's 74 and like yours strong and gutsy(I mean how many grandmothers this old wear shorts and go to the tanning bed??). She found hers early and is ok now other than weakness and soreness cause of the surgery. She goes back for tests tuesday and if it all checks out then these will be here last tests and we can all get back to normal. As for me...I got your same problem. She is my dad's mother and every woman on his side has had uterine cancer(which she chose to keep from me until she got it grrr). Then my mom, her mom, my aunt(mom's sister), and my grannie all have had Fibroids so bad that they have had to have a hyserectomy between 30-40 yrs of age. Me...well I'm just screwed. If I took after dad...cancer...if I took after mom...fibroids. Either way I'm destined to lose my uterus it seems and man to I bug the heck out of my Fiancee for us to get married and have kids now while I still can!!

This sucks for us both, but maybe we can talk and help each other feel better or atleast find some peace somewhere.

Thanks everyone

Gothic Amethyst.. It's great to see older women have spunk, gives us some hope for the future
My grandma wears pink tinted movie star sunglasses with rhinestone hearts on them and goes offroading in her jeep lol. I have the fibroids in my family too, and breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and thyroid cancer. Most women in my family lose their breasts before their uterus, but now my mom is being warned that she needs to have a hysterectomy. It would be hard to give it up when still of child bearing age
I feel bad for her.. she's trying to wait until they have better fibroid options to get anything done, which may or may not be a good idea, but she's sticking to her guns on this one. I'm amazed at how strong these women can be and how well they handle it.. I don't know if I'll be able to do the same..

Yes it is...makes me wonder though what weirdness I'm gonna inherit when I'm older!! Your grandma sounds cooler than mine! Mine drives too fast, but thats as crazy as it gets when it comes to driving!
And I thought I was cursed!
No wonder your worried! My mom couldnt wait cause hers was too big. Does your mom know that there are ways to slow the growth for now? For some people birth-control slows the groth of fibroids. I am on it and my obgyn said I may be lucky and they wont show up untill Im older since I'm starting the pills this soon. If she's adamant on waiting, she can a little while aslong as it's not too big. From what I learnt from my mom, the longer you wait the bigger they get, the heavier the period is, and it makes the recovery a little more rough as in weakness and bed time. It's mainly a matter of choice though and up to her and her doctor what to do. Dont worry about her too much though cause my mom's was susposedly grapefruit size and she's fine now(actually even rubs it in my face that she has no more periods!!)My grandma is a very stong woman too and she's fine now(well wont know 100% untill after her last checkup tuesday) and I'm sure your grandmother will be fine too. As for the strength your family's women posses: You have that too otherwise by now you'd have already went insane!
You will find a source of strenght the same way that they have. If something does happen...just remember all things have a reason...a purpose. Noone knows what or why and honestly when it happens it sucks(I've had alot of bad stuff happen),but you always find some peace and comprehension somewhere. You will be able to handle what is comming whether it is good or bad(crossing fingers and praying it's good). As for us...well we wont know what's in store untill the time comes. I dont know how old you are, but hopefully by the time we have to worry about this truly(physically) then there will be better medical solutions for us. I just hope I can atleast have one child with my Fiancee before I must deal with all this. And I hope that you can have your dreams come true as well. Who knows maybe fate will be kind and someway we will be skipped by this generational curse.
Whatever happens remember I am here as are the other board members.
Smile!! *hugs* *Prayers* *Vibes*
