So sorry you are going through this with your kitten.

I agree with all who say the pediolyte will be good, actually it can save him literally.

While I can't say for sure, I am thinking he got so dehydrated that he became extremely lethargic from it.

Putting food up to his face and he just layed there is so telling of a lethargic, dehydrated cat.

I agree with LDG that it should be 2 mls of pediolyte per half hour, or added into his canned food or chicken baby food.

You can dilute canned with pediolyte and zap it in the microwave to warm it up and make it smelly and irresistible.

In a half a day or so you should see an improvement in his stool, as it may very well be from some crap he found to eat prior.

If not, and it is white again, this is a seperate issue of it's own, however not the end of the world, and much simpler to deal with.

Be sure never to give cow's milk. Cats are lactose intolerant.

I had a bottle baby once who had white soft poop and discovered he was actually allergic to KMR formula and had to switch him to goats milk, so I thought of him when you mentioned the white stool.

I wouldn't put him to sleep either, if he is eating, and even trying to catch flies he is not suffering.

I also understand your lack of connecting with the vet today.

Sometimes they will do that, I have saved so many who different vets thought should be pts. Well I didn't and nursed them back to perfect health despite their grim outlook.

Hi, thank you so very much for that information. He's eating and drinking the pedialyte. He's trying to walk across the room. He takes few steps followed by a break. So he's trying. Since we got back from the vet, he's been having these spasms--his body stiffens up and he falls to the side. What if he has parasites? Toxo? Tapeworms or round worms? He got the dewormer today but what if he needs something else? I just want him to live.

The dose should be 1 ML every 1/2 hour. And that's for bottle-baby sized kittens - so you can probably give him 2ML every 1/2 hour.
Thanks, LDG. I will do that now.

While he may very well have worms, they will not cause him to do this.

It sounds to me like this is some sort of seizure variation.

Perhaps an epilepsy type thing going on.

I think first you want to get him much more stable than he is. Then take it one step/issue at a time. You have time, he is not hurting :)

Getting/keeping him well hydrated is number one. Food and nutrition is second.

Next will be his poop and how it is then. Wormer. Vaccine.

Get some weight/thickness on him, then see what we can do for his possible seizure activity.

Another vaccine, neuter, and so on.

ok that sounds like good advice. he looks confused after these spasms, which involve his whole body and last just few seconds. he:s very frail and i don't touch him during these episodes in fear that i might make his situation worse. I also think that it's a neurological issue and i tried to explain that to the vet but i felt like she had made up her mind. sometimes it seemed as though she wasn't hearing me at all. i had to constantly argue with her about the tests he should be getting. i told her to give him the dewormer, and she said "ok, if that's what you want.' i was so disheartened when we came home...she doesn't know what's going on and she had already given up on him and she was implying i do the same. when my other cat Odie was diagnosed with toxo, he was having some issues with stomach acid. he'd tilt his head while eating, smack his lips, even paw his face. i described all this to her and she said toxo has probably gotten to his head and she began raising the issue of 'if he's even going to live." So this vet has a lot of experience and generally she is good, but sometimes she seems like she's zoned out and doesn't hear what i'm saying to her. Odie, by the way, is now good and recovering fine. i put him on pepcid ac and the head tilt has resolved. Vets don't always know everything and i feel like maybe they shouldn't jump the gun so fast.

please keep my baby in your good thoughts and prayers. i appreciate your help so much.

Malnutrition can do terrible things. Including causing seizures. For now just focus on feeding him enough (he probably should be having about 4-5 ounces of canned food a day) and keeping him hydrated. We'll all hope super hard that he recovers well, and that malnutrition is the cause of all the problems! :vibes:

Nurse him with pedialyte and food. :heart2: Obviously he's got a fighting spirit - and doesn't seem to be getting worse, right? Trying to move around? Eating, drinking.... :rub:

Hun, how long did it take to get the toxo results for Odie? Is this kitty being tested for toxo? Results will be back Monday?

Oh - and a friend's dog is having seizures. Yes, they can be a bit disoriented. But the vet says it is much more stressful for us than it is for them.

And as Willowy says, malnutrition can cause this.

One thing at a time.... :hugs: :rub:

Thank you so much for your kind words and support. Ive talked to my sister about slowly starting him on can cat food (we're nursing him together), and shes saying shes scared after the diarrhea. She thinks since he was malnourished, we should have started with bland food and smaller meals of cat food rather than giving him more than a can a day, which he gladly ate up. The good thing is he is still eating. Im really hoping it's nothing serious. I get scared watching his tiny body stiff up :( and wish i could offer him more.

yea, i think he's a fighter. the vet tech who brought him back to me after drawing some blood from him laughed and said he's tiny but he's a fighter! compared to this morning, i think he's a little better. he's still alert, eating, using the bathroom, even trying to play. the spasms are happening, especially when he gets excited. for instance, i walked in the room with his food and he got so excited and stretched his paws and that was it. he went into a spasm. so he's got weakness in the hind legs plus these generalized spasms of the whole body. poor thing is still trying.

he is being tested for toxo. With Odie, the vet took about a week to get back to me. Odie was already on Baytril at the time and once he was done with it, i started the clindamycin. for this little fella, she said she'll call me on monday with the results. im going to call her monday morning because she usually waits until the evening to make calls and i need to know if there's any medication i need to start him on if he's positive for toxo.

He doesn't have any cough, sneezing, discharge from eyes or nose. he's also being tested for corona virus but i really don't think he has any of that.

Marrick is s good cat food. Did you get it without cereals?
Are you able to hold him on your lap? If so maybe gentle massaging of his back legs.
A really good wet food for him is Royal Canin's Recovery.
I can't advise you like the others. But you seem to be doing all the right things from what I've read here. Long may he. Blossom.

@stewball, thanks so much for yr kind words. I'm now feeding him instinct. My other kitten Iggy ears that food and since it's a high quality food, I thought I should offer some to this kitten. He's eating it. Sometimes i mixed the pedialyte in the food and other times i syringe it.

I will definitely look into the royal canin recovery food. I'll give him whatever is good for him.

It's been all night and he hasn't used the litter box. I've been giving him pedialyte and food every two hours.

My kitty is still eating, but hasn't used the bathroom yet. Before he was having what seemed like muscle spasms. Now he's having convulsions. He's doing involuntary flips. I have to hold him so he doesn't bang into something and hurt himself. Does this warrant a trip to the ER or vet 's office. I'm scared for his life.

I would take him to the vet now.  Don't force him into any position (or try to prevent him from assuming any position), just keep him safe as you've been doing and take him to the vet.

Any word?

Thinking of you and your rescue baby. :hugs: :heart2: :rub:

Hi! I can't thank you enough for all your help, support, and suggestions. I did exactly what you said and my rescue baby is doing so much better. ;:rbheart: He's walking! And running, and jumping. It's hard to believe right? All day yesterday he had so many spasms, and it seemed as though he was getting worse. By the night they were back to back. I had to call the local hospital and of course the vet gave me a vague, general response since he doesn't really know the kitten. But through it all, he continued eating (natural instinct, 1 can/day) and using the litter box on his own. I have been giving him pedialyte every two hours by syringe and i add some in his wet food also-- is this too much?. He's also getting some nutri-cal here and there.

He woke me up this morning. He was running across my body and pulling my blanket off! I woke up to a shocking turn of events. All this leads me to believe he was most likely malnourished and that's what brought on these neuromuscular spasms (if that's what they are). His head still wobbles and he's not yet 100% but he's fighting all the way to recovery! He truly has a fighting spirit.

Thank you so much for everything. I don't think I could have pulled through without your help. As you know the vet had written him off...she said something along the lines of, 'he's on his way to kitty heaven.' I'm seeing her tomorrow for the results and I can't wait to tell her about all the progress he's making.

PTS is a huge decision and something you can't decide right on the spot. I'm glad I chose to do things my way. She didn't even want to give him the dewormer...I had to ask for the dewormer and subcutaneous fluids. In retrospect, it makes sad to think of her attitude towards my little rescue baby.
