@kyleebrown it's so hard when you're the only one to give meds and care for the kitty.  It's overwhelming, stressful, and draining.  One thing you have to do is get some rest.  Things really do look better when you're rested.  The other thing to do, which is so very difficult, is to not stress or he'll just pick up on it and that will cause him to be stressed out.  Take a deep breath and know that you CAN do it and you MUST do it so that he'll get well.  One thing we always do when medicating our cats is to give them a treat before and after the medicating.  That helps with them seeing you as a "positive" thing/person in their life instead of just the evil medicine torturer.

You can use a paper plate in place of an e-collar.  Just cut a large "X" in the middle of the plate and fold the "wings" under and trim them a bit so they don't poke him. Then place it over his head so it rests on his shoulders.

Also, know that with illnesses, it seems to get worse before it gets better.  Call the vet back on Monday and ask for the eye ointment change if you're not seeing an improvement.  Until then, do the best you can and give your guy lots of loves to help him see you as a good thing in his life.  Believe it or not, forgiveness will come, but he'll make you grovel for it first.  LOL

As for dehydration, pull up the skin on the back of his neck like a teepee.  If it snaps back down, he's hydrated.  If it stays up or goes back down very, very slowly, then he needs some hydration.  To help, I always add water or plain baby pedialyte to wet food.  For sick kitties, you can add some plain meat baby food to regular canned kitten food and the water or pedialyte.  Warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave or in a warm water bath.  Warming the food helps enhance the aroma and helps them want to eat.

I hope these tips help.  It's never fun or easy when our babies get sick.

We've been there and know what you're going through.  That's what makes this site so awesome.  We truly care about you and your kitty.  Relax tomorrow and enjoy the day with Dante.

Oh  can I relate ~~  A stray kitten gimped up to my husband the end of June.  He got caught in a trap of some sort.  The vet bill almost put me in cardiac arrest!  Poor things.  I hope yours is doing better!

I do feel for you. Eye problems can be very difficult to treat and can take a long time. I am going through something very similar - I took in an abandoned kitten at Christmas with both eyes infected and it took 6 months of trying different combinations of drugs , a biopsy and a consultation with a feline opthalmogist before it was determined she had chlamydia and mycoplasma. Doxycycliine cleared it up, taking both tablets and eye gel twice daily for a month. But it came back and now one of the other cats has it too, so I have both in cages on antibiotics. After a week, both are looking much better but I must continue for another month and then we will see. I examine all my cats' eyes daily in terror. I just say all this to reassure you that you are not alone, and that these things take a long time to heal. Both these sick cats tested negative for herpes, so it does not always go together.

This is very worrying it is 6:20 am and my kitten wont eat at all, I tried to warm his food up but hes a no go.... any options? Should I put the food in a syringe thingie and force it down so to speak, I have been doing that with water to keep him hydrated

If you are sure he has not eaten in 12 hours or so I would try and get something down him. Maybe not normal food - make it very soupy with water or unsalted stock, and use a syringe to the side of the mouth . You could also get some KMR (kitten milk) or goats milk and get that down him. Not cow's milk, of course. The infection may be spreading to his nasal passages and affecting his sense of smell, so he does not want to eat. Test him for dehydration regularly by pinching the scruff of the neck and seeing if it falls back quickly. If it stays up for longer than a few seconds he is dehydrated, and you need to get vet help quickly.

Lysine.
Sorry, this was supposed to be in answer to how much lysine to give a kitten.  It is very effective for herpes.  Later I saw you already have it.  As far as your kitten not wanting to eat; sometimes doxy kills their appetite in addition to having their nose blocked.  I would follow the other posters advice and syringe food into his mouth to prevent dehydration.  KMR is great to mix with any food.

Yep. Time to start syringe feeding him.  Also, you might call the emergency vet and see if they have any advice.  I would also try plain meat baby food, either turkey or chicken.  If you can find Beechnut brand, that's great.  If not, Gerber's will do.  I usually put a dab on their nose and let them lick it off.  That usually piques their interest and they are more likely to eat the rest of it.

yeah I put him in the bathroom with me and steamed it up then I took this wetfood the animal clinic gave me (its a pate) and used a syringe when I liquified it, he soon started licking it off my hand and acouple ,hours later he ran to his food bowl and cried till I gave him Weruva wet food :) made me so happy hes getting hydrated and eating

Good!  You're doing a great job with him.  Glad to hear he's eating some and expressing interest in food.

I don't know.  I no longer vaccinate my herpes girl because every single time she got the FVRCP shot, she'd have a flare up and take a month to get well.
