What a beautiful boy, I love the stories about how uncle Lucky looked after the kittens. He was a beautiful boy in looks and in spirit. He was a very special little guy

Thank you, he really was. Hard to believe it will be two months next Monday. I feel like it was just the one-month anniversary yesterday. Such a far cry from the first week, which felt like years going by.

Lucky was the start of the "black and white" movement in the house. For so many years, starting in the late 80s, we had all this orange in the house! Some full orange, others orange and white, but lots of orange. And now all the black and white!

He is awesome! We just lost his brother 2 days ago, so we are keeping an eye on him.

When his buddy got sick and wouldn't eat as much, Hurley was more than happy to finish it for him :)

He's not fat, he's fluffy.

My little fluff, Maya, my only tuxedo to date:

Maya is also a rescue, she and her brother were the only survivors of a group of cats that were rescued from an abusive owner. They lost their mother and 2 littermates at 3 months old and were fostered by a wonderful local rescue until they were recovered enough for adoption. Maya is 3 and a half years now and almost entirely recovered from her anxiety and fear of humans.

Maya is precious! What an awesome story. She is so lucky to have you to take care of her. Tuxedo's are one of my favorites  and as you can see ... that's what I have although he is a medium hair Tux.

I'm so thankful they found her when they did and I was able to take her in. It's been incredible watching her go from this terrified little thing who would hardly leave the box in the corner to as confident and friendly as she is now. She still has some ways to go but I'm so proud of her. I really believe rescuing an abused animal is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. The first time Maya let me pet her, months after she came home, was just amazing. I'm still in awe over how strong she is to have made it through that situation so young and to have begun trusting people after being abused at such a sensitive age.

And yes, tuxies are wonderful cats! They're gorgeous and I've always loved them but Maya is my first. I just fell in love with her the first time I saw her picture, just this little ball of fluff with these big scared eyes.

I'm still ISO companion kitty for my mean, beautiful little Nala Ava Marie. The obstacles are 1. My fiancé whom thinks even Nala is one cat too many at times. 2. My fear that Nala would be mean to another cat, she loves to hiss and growl and she can be intimidating. Vet bills, food costs, litter, etc are secondary. Nala's vet offers second pet discounts so I'm not worried about that. Nala is very spoiled and demanding, I don't know how she would handle sharing the spotlight. We looked at Belle, before Ava's oven accident, I guess I felt quite guilty also after that, like how can I have another kitten/cat if I let Nala get hurt like that. I know she is a fast little kitty and I would never intentionally allow her to get hurt. Nala will be 17 weeks old on Tuesday. I hope that's still young enough to adapt possibly to having a sibling companion? Though I lavish her with attention, love, treats and toys I still sense sometimes that she is depressed or lonely. All the kitties with companions and humans to love them are very lucky. [emoji]128570[/emoji]
My two are kept separate due to fighting, so not all of them want a friend.

Thank you! She's cute but still has a mean streak. She's as feisty as she is cute! [emoji]128151[/emoji]
I don't know how you can say she has a "mean streak", she's only 4 months old, just a baby! Like all babies she is selfish, wants everything just for her, no sharing etc. and will try to take things from others even if it means hissing, biting or striking out with her paws (if she is declawed, I hope not, she will tend even more to bite). So what, she'll get over it as time passes and the other cats or humans in her life set boundaries. Some cats never learn to cuddle with others, just with their humans. Don't put human interpretations on cat behavior, they are CATS, not little humans in cat clothing.

Regarding if she is too old to get another cat companion: never. I have had only one of my cats since she was 7 months old, the others all were several years old, one of them was 10 when the resident cat was also 10, and while they are not buddies, they tolerate each other, that's all you can ask for. The other cats all get along although none of them cuddle with each other, only with me.

What you consider "mean" may very well be just "acting like a kitten". If she bites and scratches your hands, don't be surprised, she thinks they are toys, toys are for scratching and biting, and you need to teach her that hands are NOT toys which means don't use them like toys, use a real toy (feather wand? fishing pole toy?) to tease her with, stay away from her belly, most cats don't like to have their tummies touched (there are exceptions, some like a good tummy rub). Good luck with your beautiful Nala.

Thanks! She has had a few episodes of being aggressive but she is just going to turn 4 months old on Tuesday so she's a young little cat yet. I've ordered some Composure chews for her to maybe help calm her. Unfortunately she did have to be declawed. She had an accident and actually jumped onto a hot oven door. Her right paw suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and became infected, the left front paw just had superficial burns that quickly healed. Her vet said due to infection risk it was necessary to remove the right front claws, and she recommended removing the left front claws to for the sake of her balance. I was devastated. Though she was just beginning to be aggressive shortly before her accident, she very seldom clawed anyone & never tore up furniture. It was not by choice that she endured declaw surgery. She has healed fine now, if you look very closely at her right paw there is minimal scarring and she doesn't seem to be in pain. I'm afraid to get another cat also bc I'm afraid I'd end up with two troubled kittens. I will not rule out if the right circumstances occur.
She is only 4 months, I've never had a cat before, I've learned so much from this site.

So sorry for Nala and what she has had to endure. She will get over being declawed just be aware that she will use her teeth to defend herself instead of her claws. I adopted a 10 year old Persian who had no front claws and I have been the victim of her teeth more than once when I was combing her and the comb got stuck in the tangles. So I have a big bottle of peroxide in the bathroom, I pour that over the bleeding wound, watch the bubbles (no, it does not hurt at all, it just looks weird) and then cover it with a band-aide. No infection, no scars. The Persian does hiss and even growl at another cat if she feels threatened in any way and she is the smallest of the bunch although with all that fur she looks bigger than she is.

Nala is still young, just a baby, give her time. Animals adjust to almost anything, don't fuss over every little thing she does, read some books or Internet articles on cat behavior so you won't be so anxious.

And tell the fiance/boyfriend to lay off, it's YOUR cat and if he doesn't like it he can leave, you come as a package. He says that sometimes Nala is one cat too many - that's a sure warning sign, will he say that about a child in the future? This man obviously does not love your cat, how can you be sure he loves you?

There was a thread a while back where a lady in New York was asking about advice about her cat and the boyfriend who was mean to the cat, not in an overt way, just sort of quiet like. Just about everybody said to get rid of the boyfriend, people like that will strike out to people sooner or later and you don't want to be a victim. Eventually the lady did get rid of him, he begged and whined he would change, he didn't mean it etc etc but she had gotten enough encouragement from the people on the thread that she stood fast and sent him away permanently. Later she wrote she was glad she did. There are always more boyfriends to be had, only stick with one who loves animals and particularly loves your cat.

[emoji]128522[/emoji] I reiterate often that she is MY cat, my baby! He isn't overtly, blatantly mean to her but he gets mad at her when she hisses and growls at his son whom I think provokes her! I do not know why Nala goes up to him sometimes. I do not have definitive proof and granted, Nala is even mean (hissing, showing fangs, etc to my almost grown children and I know they don't abuse her.) Oh, if it ever came down to fiancé or my baby kitten, sorry but he'd be the one out of my life. He is the one who brought her to me. Lol, I tell him all the time she's the "love of my life."
